Maybe the best market in the world?
cze 2019
This market is worth making a special trip to France for from anywhere. We first visited St Omer and this market about five years ago and decided on this holiday from New Zealand we had to go again. It was even better this time. A lovely sunny day helps of course, but what stands out is the quality of produce. I took a video of the first vege stall we came to the produce was so nice and the presentation equally good, but then there were ten more stalls equally good. I do always ask permission to take photos and often have fun banter with stall holders! There were eight rotisserie trucks there I reckon and who can walk past these without wishing to buy and eat? As we were moving on that afternoon, we just bought a rack of ribs (absolutely delicious) and sat on the church step to eat them along with the most amazing pastries. Fruit, veges, meat, fish, clothes, toys, even a stall with bicycles and parts! The only thing missing was rubbish and junk that you so often find at markets. Oh dear, I must get back there asap!

Old style - with charm

This is like the markets I used to go to in Brittany years ago. Lots of live chickens (so many different breeds - all fabulous colours), tiny stalls with a few home grown veg and eggs. Really old fashioned clothes - and plenty of 'tat'. 2 very good fish stalls.Bars and cafes as well - well worth making the visit.

best market in the area
wrz 2018 • Pary
I have been to most of the markets in the area and would say this is definitely the best. Notable for the number of local people who come to sell their surplus produce and the specialist stalls; chair repairs, knives you name it. As others have said it is here today and gone tomorrow so difficult to predict what you will find

What a fabulous day to spend at this market. Locally produced fruits and vegetables. Unique cheese. Fresh cuts of meats from the butcher, amazing food stalls. You have to think authentic, when seventy year men and women have come from their farms with three chickens, assorted vegetables. When they are sold out, they go home.
Incredible assortment of heirloom tomatoes, lovely artichokes, endless array.
The huge cassoulet is fun to see. In less that an hour it is
Gone.
Loved this market and St. Omar.

Pleasant French Market Held Weds
paź 2017
We visited in late October and was surprised at what was for sale but it was what we were looking for without tourists or big hypermarkets. One end is the small holders who have chickens, rabbits, pigeons, doves, fresh veg and bulbs the other end is the traders area with several butchers, cheese stalls, clothes and roasted chickens. Very nice to walk around and take in the hustle and bustle as the town certainly comes alive with the market. Some beautiful patteseries around so worth a visit. make sure to go in the morning we hit it about 9am and was in full swing. Plenty of parking down the side streets which surround the market square.

Even in the winter a good market

We were told it is much better in the summer but in February it as good enough. Yes there are many awful clothes stalls but the top end with local farmers bringing in their own produce is a must. Only surprise was how quickly it closed down after noon.

traditional french market - probably the best in area

traditional french market, with lots of stalls, cheese meat, bread, fish as you would expect. as well as clothes etc. The locals turn up and sell their veg and animals, which is an experience to see

The real thing
mar 2015 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
Typical French market with stalls selling some terrible clothes, toys & trinkets and lethal-to-teeth sweets alongside wonderful butchers, traiteurs, bakers, greengrocers, fruiterers, dairy, cheesemonger, fishmongers and spice merchant. That's before you investigate the smallholders with chickens, ducks, quail, rabbits, honey and all kinds of garden and allotment produce, or the plantsmen. Very seasonal - seed potatoes one week, gone the next. Very local - chicory, carrots, watercress, cauliflowers are special in season. And do call in the beautiful shop of Boucherie Thery for an even wider range of meats & charcuterie. Cafes have decent coffee & chocolate, the public loo is excellent. The one for a Wednesday daytrip.
