Lovely visit
lis 2020
We were staying in a hotel down the road so piped in for a quick visit. We had an informative and enjoyable tour of the house, which was done well to ensure social distancing We did not have much time to enjoy the grounds but what we saw looked impressive

Great day out

We had a great visit last Tuesday. Martin who gave us the tour was very knowledgeable and friendly. It is fascinating - we had a long walk around the lovely gardens and lunch in Maria’s Cafe - which was super.

One of the best gardens in Wales.
paź 2020
I visited Picton Castle Gardens last week and had a wonderfuil afternoon. The gardens are really beautiful, in fact, I have just returned from visiting some of Scotlands finest and Picton is one of the best we have seen. With the addition of the Owl garden it is really good value for money. I dont understand some of the negative reviews which only seem to refer to the house..... You wouldn't visit Great Dixter just to see the house would you? The gardens were Covid compliant and there was plenty of room so there was no need to be anywhere near any other visitors. Being an avid gardener I can see that Picton must have an excellent Head gardener who is developing the garden with flair and imagination. I did not visit the house (who would, under the present circumstances), so I cannot comment on its interior, although the exterior is beautiful and complements its surroundings perfectly.

Highly recommend this day out and the Owl Garden is definitely with a visit! We were there for 3 hours but could have stayed longer. Very good value for money and enjoyable for all ages.

Not a good experience
wrz 2020
They are not open for castle tours every day and even though we arrived around 10.20am, there was no slot for a tour until 3.30pm so that was out. We like gardens, but didn't want to spend 5 hours waiting for the tour. We were told if we came back another day for 10.00am we would get an earlier tour time - unlikely I would think. There was a long queue for tickets, it seemed to take a long time for each group to dealt with. We've waited much less time at other venues, even with gathering contact details for track and trace. Some kind of update on what tour times were available before you got to the booth would be beneficial. Or maybe, as others have done, a booking system, so you don't have a wasted journey. As for the booking itself, the lady in the booth was very rude. Abrupt and rude and she came across like every visitor was an inconvenience to her. Not the best advert for the place! We did not return.

Poor value for money
sie 2020
Whilst we understood the Castle had only recently re opened post-Covid, a guided tour comprising of 4 rooms really doesn't justify an entrance fee of £30 per couple! The tour guide was well informed and did her best to make a pretty dull 50 minutes as tolerable as she could. It was a wet day but the gardens were clearly in need of a lot of tending with little to actually see. Refreshments were provided rather bizarrly in a Spanish themed cafe which had little seating meaning elderly visitors sitting outside in the rain.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you feel that your visit was not value for money. The entry fee of £15 per adult is for access to the 40 acres of RHS partner garden and also incudes access to the Welsh Owl Garden on the site. The fee you paid also permits a guided tour of the 13th century castle - which has to be carried out within the government guidelines. There is a track and trace system in place and we have reduced the size of the tour groups for everybody's safety. The castle tour includes: the Library; Great Hall; Chapel; Lady Marion's' bedroom room & bathroom; White and Gold Drawing Room; Grand Staircase Hall; State Dining Room and State Drawing Room That is a total of 9 rooms not 4 as you suggest Regards

Felt unsafe
wrz 2020
Lack of Covid 19 precautions and signage, felt really unsafe. No policing of toilets meant to be one at a time but no way of knowing anyone else was in there. No signage directing guests of which direction to go on walks, other people approaching us from more than one direction, also a lot of the paths were muddy and waterlogged, new gravel needed. The Owl sanctary also suffered from a a complete lack of directional signage. Courtyard where cafe is based had insufficient tables causing guests from more than one household to sit close together. Considering this cost us almost £50.00 for 3 adults some forethought by the owners is needed they obviously just see this as cash making exercise. time range ticketing should be a must instead of packing in as many visitors as possible.

Thank you for the review about your visit. I am sorry that you felt unsafe and felt that we had insufficient signage & policing on site. The Picton Castle Trust is a registered charity and when we were permitted to re-open we followed all government guidance and instructions to ensure that our staff & visitors are safe during the current crisis. We do have signage, distance markers and hand sanitizing stations on entry and outside the shop, restaurant and public toilets. We have not introduced timed tickets as we are a large site (over 44 acres) and do not have the pressure of visitors to justify such a step, although that may change should the visitor patterns and government guidance alter. Kind regards

Lovely visit.

Unfortunately we were not able to visit the inside of the castle as there are limited numbers allowed in. However, the gardens made for a lovely walk. The walled gardens are truly beautiful. There is a small shop and art gallery. Plus the restaurant serving a mix of Spanish and English food was worth the 30min wait for food. Also they have a collection of owls which was really nice to see.

Lovely woodland garden
wrz 2020 • Pary
Lovely garden to visit with some renovations taking place within the walled garden. We emjoyed seeing the owls and were surprised at the number of owls and birds to see. On Wednesday and Sunday there are castle visits, however although we were early at 10.20 there wasn't a slot until 1.30pm and we didn't want to wait around. The gardens are well tended and we particularly liked the jungle garden. We didn't try the cafe. A niggle was the time it took to queue up as it seemed to take ages for people to be booked through. We used the Gardener's World 2 for 1 voucher for seniors so only cost an entry fee of £8. Well worth a visit.

Lovely visit on spur of the moment
wrz 2020 • Pary
Saw this advertised in Facebook it was an advantage as you didn't need to pre book a slot etc due to covid. Lovely gardens though the maze is closed and it's not very clear that the castle isn't open all day. The best bit by far is the Welsh owl garden and was the highlight of the day

Thank you for your review as we do rely on visitor feedback to improve our offer to our visitors and supporters. I note your concern about the castle not being open - however we are gradually re-starting guided tours within the government guidelines - and we have notices to that effect in our car park and on our website. I can only apologise if that was not clear for you on the day of your visit. I will pass on your comments to the team Kind regards
