good hiking
maj 2019 • Pary
We stayed in a condo near this park while visiting Corvallis. We enjoyed hiking the trails. There are no facilities & limited parking. Great views of the city from the top of the mountain(hill?). Can see Reser stadium. Saw deer, rabbits, & a snake on our hikes.

Oak savanna restoration with nice views
mar 2019 • Dla rodziny
The restoration of the original oak to the area is a wonderful project. This area has paths that are good for hiking or running. Very peaceful and beautiful. Nice views of the surrounding area.

good workout with a nice view on top

We hike the uphill trail from behind Timberhill AC fairly often (though more in summer than muddy winter) and enjoy the view from one of the benches at the top. There is some poison oak off-trail, maybe to discourage bushwhacking, as it's a very popular place.
There are several access points and other connecting trails, so you can make it any length from less than an hour or an all-day trek. We often see various hawks and woodpeckers, and in summer bluebirds, cats-ear and cluster lilies in the spring.

Great trail, nice views

We met up with someone here in Corvallis for a short hike. It was about 1-1/2 miles. Great views from up top. Dogs are off-leash. Not too strenuous. Not a great place for a picnic afterwards although there were some tables -- just too shady for us. No bathroom.

Great Corvallis Treasure

I have ridden my horses, walked my dogs, and just strolled along by myself on this trail system. Well maintained trails, good signage, and just a nice place to be.

GREAT!!

I really liked it when I went up to Chip Ross about three times. It is even the closest entrance to the forest from where I live. BUTTT.....it is covered with poison oak. Covered, did I mention covered? Lots of people go up there and have a great time. I am not even all that susceptible to poison oak, but it is everywhere...I have dogs...and I did once have blisters. Now I only get little outbreaks from my dogs rubbing up against me. Still. If you are susceptible, you should probably stay very clear from here.

So, everything I rate is from a poison-oak point of view (I'll rate it as if I have no susceptibility)

Wonderful close-in vista
lis 2016 • Pary
I love Chip Ross. When you climb to the top you can see all around and it's gorgeous. In the winter after it's been raining though, the way up is pretty muddy. Wear boots! Perhaps they will put gravel on the road in the future. The woods has been recently thinned in order to promote the growth of oaks, making it feel quite different from a year ago. This is a close-to-town hike with a fantastic view. Take your parents and friends, but make sure everybody is okay with walking uphill for 15 minutes.

Getting crowded but still nice
sie 2016 • Znajomi
This used to be the go-to place for hiking in Corvallis but it's getting pretty crowded at times. It's still easy to get to and offers nice views of Corvallis, Marys Peak and the Cascades. Chip Ross is a good jumping-off hike to Mac Forest. Some of the trails and road can get pretty muddy in heavy rains. A pleasant bench at the top offers a nice place to rest.
