Impressed

Quite impressed that they are open almost as usual - except you have to book and numbers are very limited. Early booking is essential. The café is open, but with a limited menu.

Pleasant walk but muddy if wet!
paź 2020 • Pary
Our visit was a wet day so we missed out on the pleasure of enjoying a purchase from the outdoor cafe viewing the lake. It’s a shame there is no where to sit undercover with your hot drink. We had to result in returning to our car. We understand these are difficult times with social distancing but there were areas that were undercover which could be used during quieter days to keep dry and stay outside. We were able to take a walk around the trails when it stopped raining but it’s muddy as well as a ‘mine field’ of cow pats! So good wellies or waterproof boots highly recommended. It’s pleasant but I was expecting more from National Trust.

Hi there. I am sorry you found the small undercover seating area closed at the time of your visit. We measured the distances between the fixed tables within the shelter and sadly they are too narrow to ensure the safe distancing between family groups, even if we removed every other table. Apologies too for the cow pats - grazing cattle have been an important part of forest management for the last thousand years, but this is one unfortunate residual effect! We sincerely hope to offer more facilities and have some indoor spaces open for our visitors again next year. However these are unprecedented times and events which we have needed to adjust to to operate safely, responsibly and within the law.

First visit
wrz 2020 • Pary
We hadn’t been to Hatfield Forrest before and wanted to visit somewhere different. Having printed off the estate walk, we set off and soon lost the route and ended up making our own way around the estate. It would be helpful if they used way markers as most other NT properties use to assist newcomers to the various trails around the forest. The staff at the little cafe were friendly and helpful. The toilets were lovely and clean. Having seen some of the other pics, and the double red lines on the approach road, I assume it must get very busy.

Beautiful old forest to visit.
wrz 2020
So lovely to go somewhere natural, un-littered and see other people also enjoying the natural beauty. It is a very good place for walking and there are also trails suitable for pushchairs. Many people were walking dogs - and we were exercising our toddler!!
There is water, and things are left natural, so be aware of this possible danger. We visited during the pandemic and there were markings for queues for the cafe and toilet, and hand sanitiser available.
In the nature reserve there are some very old trees to admire, and water birds to see.

Hi Georgie Thank You for your kind words I am pleased that you found the trails good for walking with your toddler - we try to make everyone's' visit as safe as we possibly can. Great to hear also that you found plenty of Hatfield Forest's wonderful wildlife to see - the trees are beginning to look extra special in their Autumn colours. Summer Afternoon Stroll

Such a calm and tranquil place to spend time. The grounds are well maintained, and walkways are marked out by way of shorter grass which makes it very easy to get around. Parking was plentiful even when considering that one car park was closed when I visited. Food from the cafe was good and there was lots of choice, and the facilities were clean.
Also good for a little bit of plane spotting!

Well worth a visit.
cze 2020
With Corona virus around you have to book a place and places are limited. But all went very smoothly, and there was ample room to do virtually anything and still keep well away from other people. As we'd had some sunny days, there was no mud around, and all the cow pats were dried. Lots of trees and plants in leaf and flower, so lots of lovely walks. Sadly, the cafe is not yet open though it is a takeaway.

Interesting
lut 2020
Going here in the winter is not for the faint-hearted. As a National Trust member I get in for "free", but I think the payment of £8 for non-members is a bit expensive, especially in winter when many routes are very muddy. Yet the car parks were quite full on the Saturday we went there. The cafe was open and doing a roaring trade as usual, a nice place to visit, nice food, but not the cheapest. There are some marked routes which are kept fairly mud-free, but the majority of the other routes currently are very muddy - but many often are in the summer too. I have been here many times so know my way around, but I still find the maps they give you very difficult to follow, mainly because of lack of signs to tell you where you are.

Visited Tuesday. Very expensive not £5 in the winter. £8. Make sure you have the right change. Tried to pay by phone 3 times what a nightmare. Got pass gate only to see notice Cafe closed. It is half term! Dogs running around frightening children. Our family included 2 granddaughters and 3 great grandchildren. Will not visit again.

Decided to take a trip to Hatfield Forrest with the children today as we have done many times before. What we were not prepared for was how the price had gone up to £8!!!! We visited last year and it was £5!!! We won’t be going again.
