A peaceful and inspiring place
cze 2018 • Znajomi
Went here with a friend on their visit from NZ. The experience was very inspiring as we sat and relaxed.
There were a number of plants for sale outside which were very healthy and a good price.
This place is certainly worth visiting when you are in the area as it allows you to stop, contemplate and relax

A delightfully calming experience.

This modern monastery, at Beech village overlooking Alton, is open to the public, and offers rooms to stay for retreat. Delightful gardens. Altogether a de-stressing time had here. A recommended diversion for anyone visiting Alton

Benedictine Abbey with beautiful Organ Recitals
gru 2017 • Znajomi
Alton Abbey is an Anglican Benedictine Monastery (founded in 1895) in the village of Beech, near Alton, Hampshire, England. The abbey is not far from one of Hampshire's highest points, King's Hill (218 m). The community was founded by The Rev Charles Plomer Hopkins in 1884 as the Society of Saint Paul in Rangoon - it is a place of quite contemplation, organ recitals and a religious peaceful retreat with guest rooms available. If you want time to think and reflect and be surrounded by pious but personable benedictine monks look no further. A tranquil place oozing peace and solace.

Organ Recital and more
cze 2017 • Pary
We visited the Abbey recently to hear an organ recital in the chapel. This was a good experience. We also took the opportunity to explore the grounds, look at the bookstall and try the excellent tea and cakes. Overall, a very pleasant afternoon.

Day visit in the rain
cze 2016 • Pary
This is a beautiful old abbey even in the rain. We did not get to explore the gardens but wandered freely through the abbey what am amazing and delightful place. A real hidden gem. Even our relatives who live near were unaware of this beautiful tourist attraction in their area. It really makes you appreciate the sanctity of these old buildings. We were visiting from Australia and would recommend this to anyone visiting from Australia. This is a working abbey and such old buildings and lovely atmosphere to be found.

The Church. Sunday Mass at 10, a must for those seeking peace and true Benedictine tradition. The gardens are delightful. A retreat to be booked. or just quiet prayer.

Tranquil, but missed the monks
lut 2016 • Znajomi
My elderly chum and I visited here today and had a nose round this Anglican monastery. I was under the impression that monasteries were Catholic but evidently not. It's very pleasant inside and the grounds are lovely. We were hoping to have warm beverages with the Benedictine monks but they'd disappeared like a fart in the wind unfortunately.

Lovely old abbey

We visited in an overcast August Saturday afternoon. We were the only ones there. It's open to walk around and look inside. It's a beautiful building. We left a donation and read about the history of the building.

Quiet lodgings, beautiful abbey
lis 2014 • Znajomi
I have returned three times this year. Originally I came on a day trip, & was astonished by the wonderful Benedictine tradition of welcome which I had not experienced before. We enjoyed the banter with the monks, who are a very amusing bunch of people. Came back again with a group of friends to try a retreat, which we found very interesting, as it was led by Don Anselm, probably one of the best iconographers in England (formerly a commercial artist) who is fascinating, & hilarious.

I have spent my life travelling & living in hotels(which I hate) but love staying here. It is so soothing & peaceful. If you want to wind down, this is definitely the place! Just sorry I don't live closer.

My last visit was to the annual lecture, which was riveting, followed by an excellent supper & much merriment. Decided to stay the night, to make a great weekend away. Had full board, which is excellent value. Good plain food. We feel it is like visiting the favourite & most fun branch of our family!

Would recommend staying the night, otherwise an hour unless you want to go to one of their one hour services
