The Long Shop ,,,A must visit in Suffolk
wrz 2020
In spite of the restrictions due to covid we spent 2 hours at this most interesting museum. The exhibition showed how over years the firm adjusted to changing needs and technologies ,from farm machinery to tram and coach construction and eventually to building the Mustang . We were very impressed by the buildings and especially the 485 ft well and the detailed geological section of the layers encountered in it's construction. However the lasting impression was about the family ,and by that I mean the whole community of Leiston .Do look at the photo of the women's foot ball team ,the history of the apprentices and the daughter Elizabeth Garrett-Anderson who changed medical history.

Because of covid there isn't much for children to do.....but it wouldn't be beyond the scope of an intereset adult to make the whole experience come alive.

Great mix of history
sie 2020
We honestly were not sure what to expect at the museum, we chose it as a destination because it is dog friendly! A thoroughly enjoyable visit once we had negotiated parking the car. The car park at the museum is very small on some days as other parts of it can be cordoned off. Not to worry as there is a free car park just over the road and unless you have a really keen interest you can see the museum in the free hour! A good one way system was in place at generally it worked well and even when one visitor did not adhere to the route, there was plenty of room to avoid them. Very interesting exhibits and friendly staff.

A Fantastic Experience
sie 2020
This museum is a real must for all ages. Its a real hands on museum, which is the original work shop for 200 years. The Garrett family both the men and women, changed farming methods around the world; with their inventions. Steam engines, thrashing machines, 12 lb guns for shipping and even aeroplanes were designed and made here. Tim and Jude.

Interesting visit on a rainy day
paź 2019
We visited here at the weekend when it was really cold and rainy, and what a surprise we had. Not only is this an excellent museum to view engineering at its best, but we happened upon a beer and music festival.
Spent a great few hours listening to live music and partaking of some good ales.
Also had a good look around the museum although some was closed, it was very interesting and certainly helped us enjoy ourselves on a weekend with some nasty weather. We will definitely be back on our next visit to the area to have a better look around.

It's still got the engineering smell!
sie 2019
The museum, part of the Garrett manufacturing works, is a place where you can experience the Industrial Revolution in Suffolk. For a mere £6.50 you can experience the wide range of manufacturing activities carried out by this famous old company (too many to mention! The engineering smell still exists in the Grade 2 listed Long Shop. A good hour + is needed to do justice to the many exhibits and exhibitions. There are plenty of very knowledgeable staff on hand to answer questions. It was a fantastic experience visiting the museum but the star of the show was a Garrett O type trolleybus chassis built for Ipswich (The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft in North Lincolnshire is about to start the complete restoration of another O type trolleybus built for Mexborough & Swinton Traction Company)

Had a great afternoon at Long Shop Museum, the kids in particular enjoyed the entertainer who orchestrated a number of games with audience participation - they described it as “fabulous” and “brilliant”.

NOT IN STEAM? - NEVER MIND, LOTS TO SEE AND DO.
lip 2019 • Pary
A large museum dedicated to the Robert Garrett Works who went from farm blacksmiths to making steam tractors and fancy household goods. When we visited on a Sunday there was nothing in steam so do ring ahead of this is your main passion. Good disabled access and very friendly and informed volunteer staff.

Passionate if Specialised museum
cze 2019
A specialised and functional museum with loads of old machinery. A bit tired but enthusiastic volunteers. I was dragged along by my wife who wanted new information on the Garretts and she enjoyed the detail and information provided.
