So sorry this is gone
gru 2020
I have not been to this place in many years. It is such a shame t has fallen on such disrepair. When he Penn's owned the property, Mr. Penn bought, disassembled and rebuilt a windmill from Holland. The Penn's hired my Grandfather to do some work on the windmill. I understand the Penn's held parties inside the windmill. The windmill burned down but the footprint and fireplace were still there. When I was a child, my Dad drove us to the plantation. The caretaker, a Mr. Talley knew my Grandfather. The Penn's were travelling overseas and Mr. Talley let us come through the gates and let us go all over the grounds. It was magical. When I visited years later, there was disrepair and the windmill area is in the pasture area of the farm, but it was still beautiful. I am so sad that this place is no longer an attraction. Year 1980's

Don't even try to visit
gru 2020
Closed. Not able to even walk on the grounds unless you walk that the walking trail then you can see some of house from a distance. Heard to was foreclosed and all the artifacts were auctioned off. Now some pimento cheese woman owns it but its not open to the public and who knows what the inside would look like now. Its gated up like Fort Knox. It really is a shame that such a landmark has been mismanaged for so long then sold to an individual who is probably in prison and Foreclosed then sold again. If the owner does not invest money in repairs its going to be unusable for any habitation.

Chinqua Penn Trail - Beautiful Stop
wrz 2020
This beautiful trail supports the local plantation and studies water usage, purity, and preservation, for the greater area. The trail cuts through tree lined pastures, gentle sloping forests with babbling brooks, ponds, and even water features - albeit almost everything here has a purpose. There are plenty of places to stop and take it all in - even some spots that would be great for picnicking. Its just miles of peace and tranquility - very nice. Highly recommend!

mar 2020 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
Built by the Penn's of Reidsville. However, after the family handed it off to the NC University system. It was sold then foreclosed on. And all the furnishing sold off. It was beautiful place in it's day.

Closed - Crying as I type
lis 2017 • Pary
A little dramatic? Probably. But this house holds a special place in my heart. I have loved this place since I was young and first visited during a field trip in school. I was supposed to be married here, we had our engagement photos and my bridal shoot here until I got the call 3 weeks before our wedding that the owners were filing bankruptcy and the judge said we were not allowed to have our wedding there. I wasn't a "bridzilla" until that moment. ... When they auctioned off everything, I cried... There was so much history in that one house, that now is forever lost. The Penn's never had children, so they traveled, brought history from all over the world to that small town in NC. It's a shame and just a pure travesty with what happened to the house and it's artifacts. I will never be ok with what happened to this beautiful house. (and yes, btw, we ended up being married at a smaller plantation in Reidsville, the Bellmont Estate.)

Chinqua Penn Trail
wrz 2018 • Znajomi
This beautiful easy trail winds through woods, meadows and by a creek and two lakes. All kinds of wildlife can be seen in this area. Stone structures and benches dot the path which is gravel and dirt. It is dog (on a leash) friendly. Don't miss this historical , beautiful trail!

It used to be Grand
kwi 2017
This used to e a place where you could take a tour of this mansion and it's furnishings that had been collected from all over the world by the Penn family. It had been sold and then went into banhruptcy and now is a property owned by the city of Reidsville. I had been there many times but have not been there since I was told there is a walking, biking trail through the property. I am hoping it will one day be restored and again be open for eveyone to enjoy.

It's closed and privately owned

This was a really cool place to visit at one time but sadly all that remains is the house and grounds which have been held privately a couple of times now.

Trail Walking
sty 2016
A beautiful English house and gardens with a splendid view of the county side and the land. The house and adjacent buildings are beautiful and as if they are from a postcard if only they allowed admission inside. The large property is excellent for biking and trail walking. With everything from mild to treacherous trails through the picturesque bamboo and mixed forests and a scenic water dam it's perfect for a couples walk to a family trek.
