Beautiful Bear Mountain
cze 2020 • Biznesowy
I stayed at Camp Homeward Bound in Bear Mountain, Upstate New York. What a beautiful place. Full of wildlife including deer & chipmunks. Tall lush green trees, many vast lakes and generally a gorgeous natural area to have lived temporarily.
Whenever I'm in the states again, I will be paying Bear Mountain another visit.

This is an amazing place, love hiking and being surrounded by nature. Whenever I can I go to explore nature and Bear Mountain is a magic place to be, even I enjoy being there by myself or friends and family

Beware of NYC crowds on weekends
sie 2020
Large, beautiful park which can be quite crowded on weekends (and traffic a mess).
We visited during the week and almost had the park to ourselves.
Park contains a zoo (see separate review), swimming pool and carousel (which was not operating on the day we were there).

Senior drivers avoid the park fee during the week.

We Finally Hiked Bear Mountain!
wrz 2020
My wife and I along with our son hiked up the trail to the Perkins Tower on the summit of Bear Mountain this Fall and it was a truly meaningful experience. We have visited the Lodge and the grounds around Hessian Lake many many times, but this hike to the top is a trip you must take if you can physically handle it. It can be very strenuous so make sure your doc says it is ok for you! We took the steep and challenging route up the north side which involves some memorable and leg-straining climbs. This trail is just off the Hessian Lake paved path and quickly becomes a steep trail. Wear good hiking shoes! Great views as you ascend, so take your time and take deep breaths.

Bear Mountain Bridge & Road Scenic Drive!
paź 2020
Decided to take the Bear Mountain Bridge to Bear Mountain Bridge Road day trip.
Interesting ride over and alongside the Hudson River south on Route US6/202.
Traveling the road on Anthony's Nose.

Nice! Pretty! Amazing! - 3 mile two-lane twisting and turning drive!
Steep rocky majestic mountain slopes to one side and the brillant powerful Hudson River beckoning on the other side.
Magnificent views especially during the Fall Foilage!
Stop at the Scenic Overlook.

Close to Bear Mountain and Harriman State Parks and not far from local towns.

Good for a day trip
paź 2020 • Dla rodziny
We drove for a short trip to see the fall foliage. We had little children so we did not plan on any hiking.Fall foliage was not at its peak yet but the scenery was beautiful. There was a paved trail along Lake Hessian which was perfect for strollers or wheelchairs. Our little ones loved climbing the low rock formations along the way. There were bathroom facilities. There were picnic areas with barbecue facilities. We bought food from the concession stand.Food was good but a little pricey as expected.Boats were available to rent. The park was clean overall. We went on a Sunday morning and it was a busy day. Entrance fee was $10.00 per vehicle. There was heavy traffic on the Palisades Parkway getting into the park. By noon, the park was at full capacity and the entrance was blocked.Go early, bring your picnic and enjoy Bear Mountain.

Very crowded
paź 2020
WE were able to get in for a quick stop while in the area. WE went during the Columbus day weekend and it was very crowded. We tried to go in the early afternoon and couldn't get in. We made it in the early evening and got in but the park was still crowded. I'd like to go back when it's not crowded and do more.

Not up to memories....
wrz 2020
Always loved Bear Mountain State Park, a great getaway for decades. To get back to NYC, I always cross the Hudson at that Bridge ($1.65) instead of using the GWB ($14+) and getting stuck on the Cross Bronx Expressway.
In the past, I’ve hiked the Appalachian Trail segments and walked in the green.
However, haven’t been to the BM in area or the zoo in years. Went last weekend, and to my surprise, the facilities are quite run down. (Scenery is still great, though). Don’t expect any serenity or privacy. Bathrooms were dirty, paved trails (park side) were all busted up. Much restoration maintenance is needed.
Still it is a day in the woods. Will try the park again in the winter when the It is cover in a beautiful layer of snow.
