The attic is a must see
wrz 2018 • Pary
This is a well maintained piece of local history. It is french architecture with the vertical logs and trusses are visible in the attic.

Best house tour we went on in Ste. Gen
cze 2018 • Pary
The tour guide was engaging and excited about her job. The house (except the attic) is air conditioned and nice in the heat we were visiting in. Beautiful furniture. Nice garden area. Neat to see the Norman Trusses in the attic.

Welcoming and informative
mar 2018 • Znajomi
Came here out of season on a college road trip. Though it was usually a month before it opens for the season, we had a guide give us a special tour to see the house, even though most of it was closed for repairs. The guide was welcoming, enthusiastic, and very helpful and informative. Definitely worth the time.

Best place to see Norman truss construction

Guided tour of the home including the attic with its Norman truss construction. Period furniture. Learn what it was like in the late 1700 in a French settlement.

Circa 1806 New France poteaux -sur-sol house worth a look
lip 2017 • Znajomi
St Genevieve is blessed with wonderful examples of New France architecture, the Jacques Guilbourd historic house is one not to miss. The tour guided by a costumed docent begins on the long elevated porch which once encircled the poteaux-sur-sol (vertical timbers on a sil) home. Getting to see the Norman truss architecture was amazing no nails but ask why the chimney moved. Very interesting and the guide was knowledgeable and entertaining.

Norman Trusses
cze 2017 • Pary
Yet another terrific historic home to see in Ste Gen. Best part is the attic where you have full view of the Norman truss work which goes a long way in understanding this unique style of architecture.

Off the beaten path, a must see
cze 2017 • Pary
We really enjoyed our tour. It was late in the afternoon, and was interested to know that we were the first tour of the day. The woman who brought us around was very well informed of the history of the families who built and owned this property throughout the years.
We found this tour to be the most well preserved with beautiful furniture and pictures of its era.
As a builder, I was thankful to have toured the attic to appreciate the roof design up close and personal.
Make this your first stop! Peace, Matt😎

Interesting home, great guide

I believe our guide's name was Tish. She had an amazing knowledge of the town history and the home. Many historic homes here are built with vertical timbers, never saw that before.

Great for history buffs

One of the many historic homes in this great little town. We had a tour and the young lady really knew her stuff. Definitely worth a visit to learn about the home and the families that lived there.

An excellent example of the vertical post style of architecture w/ Norman trusses....
wrz 2016 • Pary
where you can actually go into the attic to see how those trusses "work". The story of the family and the family history is fascinating and seeing the heirlooms collected by them is definitely worth visiting the house. You can also get a view of how a wealthy planter of French decent lived at the time. But the real star of the show is the unusual architecture (while in the attic note the replaced chimney). Our docent was lively and thoroughly enjoyed giving the tour to us and enjoyed any questions. This is part of the "pass" offered at the welcome center and, if possible, I would do this third after visiting Bolduc & Bauvaus-Amoureux.
