New Superintendent = Amazing conditions!

Wow. The course was in fantastic shape. One of the best I've seen for any public course. You could easily say the condition of the greens could match those of most private clubs. Certainly best bang for your buck.

Nice Course!
wrz 2018
Was able to play this course before flying back home, staff got us on with no tee time, very accommodating. Nice course, great shape, more hills than expected but had a nice experience!

Golf on Friday night!
lip 2017 • Znajomi
Highland is a solid public course, it's kept up will and has some challenging holes. It's usually pretty busy at peak hours. It changes elevation and has a snoopy sand trap. The course is also pretty wide open if your friends are new to golf. Right in the heart of St Paul with decent views as well!

Okay course but I prefer to old layout
lis 2016 • Pary
First time I played this course in several years. Completely renovated but I like the "original"layout better. Biggest problem with old and new layout is many holes parallel each other so you often have to wait for golfers to return to their hole before hitting. Still using old clubhouse. Parking is rather limited. Lot of golfers walk the course which tends to extend playing time. An okay course but nothing special. I would play other city/owned courses.

Very nice round of golf

The golf course is kept in very good condition. There is a balance of short and long fairways with varying difficulty. The greens are not a slam dunk but you do have a chance. Easy access from all over the twin cities.

B+ greens, disappointing fairways, inexpensive, very slow
cze 2013 • Znajomi
Lovely day, but can not recommend this course except if you don't care about a very slow round (on weekends) are looking for inexpensive green fees ($36 for Sunday 18, walking, more if you want a power cart).

Greens are in reasonably good shape - slower than the best courses but not slowest I've encountered.

Had a tee time at 1:45 - it took us 5 hours to finish 18. This is a course that a lot of people who do not play very play use, which is too bad. Course officials send someone around to sell cold drinks but not to encourage faster play.

Fairways are another big problem. There are dirt spots in almost all the fairways. (Modest rough is growing well). You should not have to hit off dirt when your drive is in the fairway. But this happened in a number of fairways.

This is not a difficult course and it's too bad the staff has not kept the fairways up to standards for the Twin Cities. The fact that you can easily get a tee time on weekend afternoons is in part a reflection that there are many other courses in the Twin Cities that are in better condition. This is too bad because the city of St. Paul spent a lot of money fixing the course up several years ago.

Highland National-Not worth it!
paź 2012 • Znajomi
I do not know what the hype is all about... This golf course is way over rated & I was very disappointed. The front 9 is sparse, wide fairways & no real rough or groves/rows of tree. For those who slice it into the woods a lot, this course is for you!! It just goes in the neighboring fairway. It's not pretty either, except when you're teeing off Hole 8. The view of the surrounding city is beautiful! All the tee markers were off for mowing/maintenance, so it was a free-for-all! The greens & sand traps that surround them are the only challenging thing. The ranger said the Back 9 was prettier & about the same as far as the challenge. It's not $30 to play like another reviewer claimed. It's $39 or $21 for 9. We paid the fall rate for 9 which was $18.
I would much rather play across the street at Highland 9. It's unpretentious, cheaper, more challenging & much prettier with it's many trees. When you're done, walk across the street for a hotdog & take a swim in the Olympic-sized pool & play at water park! It's filtered with sphagnum moss, so the water is beautiful!!

Charles Schulz's Course...Above Average But Very Fun
lis 2011 • Znajomi
An old classic course in a great neighborhood, Highland is noted for being the course many of the area's young people learned the game, from Charles Schulz to Joe Mauer.
Yet, it is still well loved even by the country club set because the conditioning is good, one can shoot a very good score if you avoid the occasional hazard and there are no blind shots. From the whites it is 6200 yards and a slope of 128. About 6600 form the blues. But the best thing about it is that you can see from each tee where you should place your shot, The green complexes are classic old Scottish design, a few redan trap placements, but overall one can recover from an errant shot. the old clubhouse needs upgrading but is classic. Also, a good course to walk. The 15th has a giant sandtrap designed as Snoopy. The nine hole course across Montreal Avenue is one of the best executive courses in the state, but terribly slow greens. Both courses are a very good value but keep in mind that there are a lot of beginners and occasional players.

Over rated and over priced
Not a bad course, but the "National" in its name makes it out to be something special, it's not. Plus, if you play early like I like to , they remove all the flags on all the greens b/4 they mow any of the greens. So, it's sort of guess where the hole is when your shooting at the green. I guess it saves some time in mowing, but it stinks if you're golfing at the time.

Best golf course in the city of st paul!
Anytime I look to play at a golf course, I always look for customer service first and the staff suited all of my needs. A nice and good looking gentleman named Rob helped me with everything I wanted to know. The golf course is definately well kept. It is only a few years old so there is a hole, I believe number 10 fairway that still has some spots to come in, but other than that it is a fantastic course for the price of only 30 bucks with challenging greens it is by far a challenging course for the best players and a fun course for beginners. I will definately be coming here numerous times throught the year!
