For Witch Trial Enthusiasts
wrz 2020 • Pary
If you’re interested in the Salem witch trials this is a site you’ll want to see. While it’s a little outside of Salem as we know it today, it is close to the site where the original interrogations began. A replica of the Salem meeting house is at the site while the original spot is a short 5 minute drive near an incredible memorial to the victims. The site itself, especially during these trying times is limited, make sure to check the hours on their website to make sure it’s open. You’ll check in at a desk near the parking lot, where you’ll fill out the forms for contact tracing, etc. from there you’ll head to the visitor center/gift shop to purchase your admission tickets and browse the gift shop, which has an awesome selection. From there, you’ll begin at the homestead, which doesn’t have a lot to it. For me, it was a must see because the Rebecca Nurse story is heart wrenching. Without background information though, it’s a tough sell to pay $9 a person to walk through a house for a total of maybe 5 minutes. The treasure for me here is the family cemetery, which is a short walk on the trail behind the home. Make sure you stick to the trail, as the “shortcut” is very bumpy so please just walk the trail. There is a wonderful monument to Rebecca there, where her family buried her body according to their accounts. Remarkably, George Jacobs, another witch trial victim is buried there, when a skeleton of a believed witch victim was identified and reburied here. Very honestly, if you’re not someone with deep interest in the trials and doesn’t have background knowledge already, this place will not interest you due to how it’s presented right now. But it is historically significant and gives an insight to the personal place from the time lived.

A Serene Visit to a Historic Site of the Witch Trials
paź 2019
We went to Danvers on the recommendation of a friend who shared that Danvers was, at one time, known as Salem Village. This site was highly rated when we looked for historical sites in the area. We opted to go on a self-guided tour although we were offered the opportunity to tour with a docent. The hours of operation were accurately posted. We had ample time there to tour the historic buildings and walk to the family graveyard. We visited in October on a Sunday. I would highly recommend this site for visitors who are looking for an unhurried, uncrowded historic site from the witch trials era.

A beautifully maintained window to the past
paź 2019
Exploring the buildings and grounds of the Rebecca Nurse Homestead in Danvers is the closest experience you can find to actually getting a sense of what it was like to live in Puritan times. The home, graveyard, and outbuildings are all beautifully maintained and provide a true window into the past. Entering the recreation of the Meeting House (the original of which housed the Salem witch trials) sent shivers down my spine. Don't miss this experience!

Bringing You Close to the Witch Trials
paź 2019
The homestead is on 27 rolling acres of history. The buildings (updated) are exactly as they were in 1692 (and later). Our docent CANDACE was amazing in her knowledge of history and in her ability to bring the tragedy of one Witch Trial into our hearts. The struggles of the families of those accused of witchcraft and the inability of those who ruled on death for the witches was simply heart breaking. The homestead is alive with history, is generally historically accurate and the explanations are clear and based on historical fact.A must for all members of the family and so much less crowded than Salem.

Make certain you check the dates and times it's open as the times are very limited. If you love history this is definitely a place to visit.

Go early as this place closes at 3 PM. The tour is less than an hour, but there are grounds to explore and a family graveyard. There is also a rebuilt Shaker Meeting House (in the style of the late 1600s) that has been moved to the property. The tour guide was excellent and extremely knowledgeable. Very worth the time!

Very disappointing
sie 2019 • Pary
The property closed at 3pm, not 5 as advertised. We got there at 2:30 and were told that would be plenty of time. We were skeptical but decided to do it anyway since we had taken the time to drive there. 30 minutes was more than enough. There was no tour guide and very little information provided for a self guided tour. It was surprising. The website is very well done and informative but the actual "museum" is a big dud. Save your $8!

Historically accurate homestead of the witch trail era.
cze 2019
The Rebecca Nurse Homestead is owned and operated by the members of the Danvers Alarm List Company who maintain the property as an historical accurate representation of a home during the horrific Salem witch trial era. Danvers was part of Salem Village at the time. The homestead, meeting house and surrounding area are well kept and house many artifacts of the period. If you don’t mind taking a short stroll, you can walk down to the area where Rebecca is thought to be buried.

UNEXPECTED TREASURE
sie 2019
I wrote a review two years ago (August 2016). We decided to go back to the Rebecca Nurse House after rewatching the film "Three Sovereigns For Sarah" which we purchased after our first visit. It was very interesting to again see the Meeting House that had been constructed for the film. Our tour was excellent because of the very informative and knowledgeable tour guide and the fact that one of Rebecca Nurse's descendent was also on the tour.

The store, where you buy tickets, opens at ten o'clock. The first tour is at ten thirty. The Saturday we were there, only one person was working. Be aware that the store was closed during tours. I had picked our some items (between 10:00 and 10:30) intending to buy them later. I was able to get the tour guide to help me as she was leading her next group from the Meeting House to the house.

Well worth the visit

Enjoyed the tour and also walking around the site and visiting the cemetery. This is a better site to visit than many of the tourist traps in Salem.
