I have been going to the Speedrome since 1982 and it’s a great place. The track is small which makes its so fun and exciting to watch all the different forms of amateur racing. Lots of family battles at the Drome and it’s a blast for all ages. If you have been to the Speedrome then you have to go. This year the facility has had a major facelift and it’s amazing!!! New seats, restrooms, concession stands and more. I love the Speedrome and it’s so fun to take my kids to the place I went to as a child. If your a fan of any kinds of racing this is a must see and the World Figure 8 is the craziest race on the planet and you can only find it here. I highly recommend the Speedrome, affordable family fun for all.

They started a bit late due to heavy rains earlier in the day but the racing was excellent.
This is a very quirky place as far a racetracks go. Most of the stands you are sitting on metal folding chairs. This place truly is a throwback to the good old days of auto racing. The concession stands could be better but the prices are not to bad considering. We usually make a couple of trips a year to this track. I live in Illinois and the thing that I find difficult these days is that I am no longer used to people being allowed to smoke within sporting venues. If you enjoy auto racing I think you have to bust the Speedrome at least once in your life be it for figure 8 racing or midget racing.

That's what we called it 60+ years ago when I first started attending with neighbors who had a car racing there. Maybe it's the danger inherent in racing [especially figure 8s] but I'm still attracted to this. I've been to numerous 500's, some road races, NASCAR, etc.and I still enjoy this on a weekend evening. It's inexpensive, the crowd isn't rowdy and there's no humongous traffic jam when you want to leave. It's appropriate for all teenage or above. Probably wouldn't appeal to younger because they're accustomed to controlling the action on video games. Enjoy an evening of racing the way it's been for year's ~ only the cars have changed [and fans like me.]

Decided to go the a race, and got exactly what we expected.
Worth the price of admission but be sure you understand the type of environment you are getting into.
Biggest Negative.... the PA system is all pointless to say the best.

My first figure 8 racing experience was last Sunday at the Indianapolis Speedrome. Even as a die-hard racing fan, I have to admit that I was amazed at what these folks do and at their driving skill... and sheer guts! This is really exciting racing and compelling drama. $10 bought me the whole seat, but I only needed the edge! (Cheesy, I know!)
The track and facility are pretty nice for a venue of this size. Track surface is very good, view from every seat looks good, safety barrier and fencing appear sturdy, stands are a mix of wood and metal and are reasonably comfortable (I'll bring a stadium chair next time), but all looks pretty clean and reasonably well maintained. Location is excellent: on the East side off of Brookville Road just inside 465.
Now to the bad part. 35 minute wait in line to get a hot dog and a drink. I missed whole races! I only saw two workers at the counter and a long line of people waiting. Those folks were working hard and were actually pretty friendly, but only one of two food stands was open and it was desperately understaffed. I heard people in the stands complaining that they ran out of soda well before the end of the races. You can't bring food or drinks in but unless they fix this issue, I will start putting food and drinks in a cooler in the car. Food sales are high margin and could make or break an entertainment venue, and I saw a LOT of frustrated people walk away hungry and thirsty with their money still in their pocket. Be prepared for this.
Track safety was another big concern for me as a race fan. One car had a stuck throttle and crashed through the wooden section of the wall that leads to the pits. This happens, but a couple people were hit by either the car or the door or pieces of the door (couldn’t tell from where I was sitting). On several occasions during caution periods, a tow truck and safety truck were on the track with cars flying around them on both sides… way too close and way too fast in my opinion. One car ignored a black flag for probably 10 laps, and ALL of the cars ignored both of the two red track lights and the flagman waving the red flag and kept right on driving for several laps. Ignoring a red flag is unconscionable! Danger, and the perception of danger, are part of motor racing, but poor safety management and practices put people at risk needlessly. As recent track news has proven, a racetrack is a dangerous place and not enforcing and following safety rules gets people killed. Again, beware that as a spectator, you might see something bad happen if they don't wrangle some control over the safety conditions.
AWEOME racing, but I think that facility need to be WAY better managed.
