Tragic and passed its prime
lis 2020 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
It's not worth it. If you're young and a stereotypical gay man then you might like it but if you're anyone of any difference beyond your standard selfish self-absorbed aesthetic obsessed gay man then don't bother. This place is most definitely past its prime and if you want a decent LGBT experience then I might suggest Andersonville. if you want a tragic garbage pile of queens that think too much of themselves then yes go ahead with Boystown

Annual Market Days Celebration was a Blast!
sie 2019
We haven't been to Chicago in over 20 years so planned a 5 day weekend as part of a 2 week vacation. We love to walk the City. So one day we walked Magnificent Mile from the Wrigley Building all the way up to the Park on the north end.

It was a Saturday and I suggested to my husband that we take the L up to Boystown so we could walk Halstead Street and hit some of the gay shops and bars. We had no idea that it was their annual Market Days celebration until we arrived and saw thousands of people walking up and down the closed off Halstead street.

We ended up paying the $10 per person admission which is well worth it as it helps support the merchant association along Halstead. We spent the entire afternoon looking at vendor booths, having drinks at a bar, watching the entertainment that was spread throughout the area.

It was a Blast!

we came in town from NYC for the Market Days weekend and had a blast. Imagine a huge, gay Street fair! food, drinks, drag shows, concerts, etc. Deborah Cox did a few songs. thank you Chicago!

The Boys of Summer
lip 2019 • Znajomi
The "Boys of Summer" (aka: the Cubs) are just north of this bastion of equality in Chicago. Going back to the late 70s and early 80s, this was a neighborhood in transition. You could pick up a condo conversion fairly reasonably. It was the absolute essence of gentrification. Finally, it emerged as an upscale area, and the reasonably-priced condos were no more.

Over the years, though, it has slipped from its glory days. There are still shops, restaurants, and of course, the Treasure Island. But many of the novelty or one-of-a-kind shops have disappeared. There are several really nice hotels in the area, and it's a pleasant departure from the Loop or the Magnificent Mile. You can saunter down to LSD (Lake Shore Drive) and Lake Michigan.

Back in those 70s, and 80s, you could find a dozen parking spots on any given street - even at 2AM. Now, parking is at a premium. In some cases, permits are required, so be very careful where you park. The CTA serves the area with buses on Halsted, Broadway, and Sheridan.

LOVE!
maj 2019
We were in Boystown in May 2019. We rented a cute 1BR VRBO just two blocks off Halstead at the corner of Wrigley Field. With tons of bars and lots of good food options, it's a do not miss for any LGBTQ nor ally when in Chicago.

If you’re ever in Chicago then you should go to Boystown. They have very good clubs, restaurants and LGBT friendly neighborhood where you can feel free and accepted whether you are single or a couple.

Welcoming, vibrant, and informative neighborhood worth a visit
mar 2019 • Pary
I have been to many gay neighborhoods in several cities around the world, and this one is the best I have seen. There are rainbow signs, pillars, banners, and flags everywhere. Unlike in some cities, where you are not always sure you have actually found the gay neighborhood, Boystown makes it crystal clear that you have arrived. The Legacy Walk along Halstead Street is fascinating: there are plaques at every lamp post commemorating a famous gay person. We had a fantastic afternoon walking and sight-seeing in this beautiful neighborhood. See it if you can!

A welcoming place with lots of shops and restaurants
paź 2018 • Pary
Chicago is blessed with many cool neighbourhoods, and this is one of them. The buildings are all on a nice human scale, and there's a mix of old and new, but mainly old, just like we like them. The rainbow pylons let you know you're in the right community, and the historical information on them is great, even for members of the LGBT community, but especially for the general public who are paying a visit. We loved the vibe here, and sense that this is a very liveable, welcoming area. It seems like you're spoiled for choice here with good eateries, and we found the perfect place to have a lovely dinner.

It's not the same as it once was

The neighborhood is being gentrified, but there is still a lot to recommend about Boystown. It's the site of many gay Chicago events and is a very welcoming place.
