We enjoyed seeing the house and gardens -- it would be nice to have a visual of the people the guide is mentioning so you would be less overloaded with a list of names. A face with the name would really help as well as sometimes an overview of the names with a time line. It is a lot to take in by the audience from hearing some one spewing out name after name.

We stopped by hoping to visit and luckily were able to do a self guided tour with great written material that included extensive historical information. The home is well maintained & furnished to period. All three floors & the widows walk is accessible, the grounds are so peaceful right on the water. Be sure to visit. Review the website be persistent mainly run by 2 volunteers who do an amazing job

What a grand fabulous old home downtown FT. Myers! The history of the 4 previous owners was quite interesting . The grounds and water view are spectacular!

We were on a self-guided tour (bit of a mix-up on our custom tour), but the house/garden booklet explained in detail all the key rooms and special heirlooms.

I would highly recommend touring, and it's within an easy walking distance of downtown restaurants and shops.

I took a tour with a group of six ladies on a Thursday early afternoon. I called to obtain information and spoke with Laura who was fabulous in providing me with all the information I needed. Upon arrival, Laura met us at the door and provided us with an abundance of hospitality. We utilized the self guided read it yourself tour. The home is beautiful and filled with rich and entertaining history. They do have different tour options, so please check the website to determine which tours are available for the dates you plan to attend. Laura has updated the website to provide clearer information about this beautiful home.

I followed website directs and reserved ahead of time. When I arrived I was surprised to find myself joining a tour comprised entirely of 'women of a certain age' who apparently all lived in the same trailer park - but they sort of adopted me, so it was fine :) This is a very well preserved, carefully constructed and for the most part maintained house which was, in its day, very modern and up to date. (Interesting contrast with the house across the street that serves as your parking lot - same period, similar history but totally different and more modern architectural style). Our guide knew everything about everything (I won't have that much RAM in 15 or 20 years) and was very patient when required. Tour was thorogh with lots of opportunity to take photos even with a large group. A wortwhile experience and 90 minutes later you will have certainly gotten your money's worth an more :)

The web site directs visitors to email or call for a tour reservation on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. We did both two days in a row and never received any response. So we drove there and learned from a parking lot attendant that the place is closed for a special event. Based on a review of the web site it appears that special events is the main focus of this place.

Awesome! Hosted a community woman's lunch and tour and everyone loved it! Special thanks to Laura who was a great tour guide. It was interesting hearing about the history not only of the home and family but also of the area. She helped coordinate our boxed lunch with the caterer by the water in the gazebo. Everyone had a great day. Highly recommend both the tour and the location as a venue.

I had a groupon for this historic place. No where did it specify that you have to take a tour of the home and only at specific times. We were late for the last tour and the woman was quite rude to us feeling that we were some kind of morons for not knowing that you have to take a guided tour. We never did go back.

Being a tourist. I could not find the place in time for the once a day tour. I just got lost..
When I arrived the tour had already started, I rang the bell, saw the tour just behind the door, but no one reacted, not even to say, sorry, you are too late..
How rude!

You may drive all of the way here to find it closed. It is not open very often. I couldn't find literature so had no idea it wasn't open regular hours.
There was a lady there, but she wouldn't even let us walk on the porch and peek in.
We drove all the way from Naples to see this home. A lady in a historical center told us about it. Minimal advertising. I am sure they don't advertise, because they are closed more often than not.
Fortunately there was an art show in Ft. Myers so plenty to do. Good restaurants too. You may drive by this, but don't expect to go in. You think they would be open during a major festival.
