Hike’s are mostly done in the mornings usually departing about 8am. What time you’ll return all depends on the terrain produced by the weather. It took us 6 and a half hours round trip for the Dian Fossey hike with thick mud and rain all the way through and took an age. But on a dry day I’ve heard it can be 2 hours round trip. Don’t book an afternoon tour just in case..

Its not up to you what time the hike starts. There is a certain timetable and procedure you have to follow. You will probably start the hike around 09.00 - 09.30. It will take about 2-2,5 hours to trek up there (depending on weather and stops). You will spend about 45 minutes on the site. It will take another 1-1,5 hours to come back down. Most probably you will be back well before 3.00pm.
