We sent on an Artay tour from Salta through the Quebrada del Toro to San Antonio de las Cobres, Salinas Grande and Purmamarca. It was practically a 11 to 12 hour tour of nearly 600 km and well worth it. Our driver/ guide Rami picked us up at our hotel and once all the participants had been picked up we set off. Rami gave us a commentary throughout the day in Spanish and English. The sights were amazing, the scenery magnificent, the colours unbelievable! We stopped off to take photos of the viaduct, where the Tren de las Nubes passed, the Puna, and we stopped for refreshments and to visit Alfarcito, a very small settlement. After we set off for San Antonio, where we stopped for lunch and where it was possible to buy souvenirs from the women waiting in the streets , to walk around the village and visit the church dedicated to San Antonio de Padua. Once ready we set off for Salinas Grande along a dirt/gravel track, Rami concentrated on the drive and we noted the wildlife. We stopped off at the Salinas for about half an hour to take photos and have something to drink. We were warned to put on sunscreen , insect repellent , sunglasses, and a hat to protect us from the sun's rays. On the salinas we spent time taking fun photos too! We then set off for Purmamarca via the Abra de Lipan , where we reached an altitude of 4,170 mt above sea level! Then descending rapidly we arrived at the lovely town with the wonderful Cierro de los 7 colores. Unfortunately our stay in Purmamarca was too short, there was lots to see and do in such a short time. The pretty square full of stalls selling typical goods and side streets with more expensive products were very popular. The last leg of the tour was along the Quebrada de Humamarca to San Salvador de Jujuy and back to Salta where we were dropped off at our hotel. A long but unforgettable day!

We took the "Quebrada de Humahuaca" tour with Julio, who was a friendly, informative and knowledgeable guide (he was able to talk and answer questions about topics as varied as art, geology, history, crafts, religion and food). We saw and learned more about the area, its history and peoples than we expected, and the small size of the group (less than 20) allowed for personal attention. The van will pick you up (around 7:30 am) and drop you off (around 8:30 pm) from your hotel. The cost (670 pesos per person) was much lower than what quoted as average at the Salta Tourist Information central Office.
In sum, we were very satisfied with the tour, except for the fact that our guide was not always able to express himself in English (even though we had requested a bilingual guide), and some of the stops were unnecessary (at the clay factory, for example, where the main reason for stopping was so that visitors would buy their products). So if you don't speak Spanish, this tour /travel agent may or may not work for you.

You have the VIDEO in attachment. My back is BROCKEN.
- 3h of dirty road with a transport not adapted
- salinas are ugly and full of tourists (uyuni 1000x better)
- you really are in jail like a group of sheeps. 1mn here, 5mn here, ... 4170m is like a "WOW" and you take the photo of a stone saying it..

Avoid it by all means. If i could i would have spent money before to skip the end of this tour.

Sir.it takes one hour and a half from Purmamrca to san Antonio de los Cobres.not 3 hours like you said , you paid for a regular tour and the other passengers were not sheeps! 18 passengers in the van. The guide is bilingual and we do not have any complain..in the group were english natives . ..you are the only one who have problems with the tour.

Sir ... and I explained that if you buy illegal regional items we are not the culprits who have not allowed you to get on the plane. Be thankful that they did not make you pay a fine or have a cause initiated for what you did. And the next time I wrote in Spanish because when I spoke to you, he did it perfectly because you are from Buenos Aires. Do not hide behind pseudonyms. Saludos

We were approached by this agency about a tour. We were assured either the driver or tour guide would provide a good English translation. (Multiple promises) We are a group of six English speakers. The guide was very nice and he tried to the best of his ability. However, he could not speak English well. Thus the full benefit of the tour was lost. We were not offered a discount. We opted not to take a second tour with this company.

Thank you for your comment, unfortunetly the native english guide was not available. It is a shame that you did not tell me when you returned and we met in the square, on the contrary and in a very good Spanish said that they had a very good time. Best regards.

My Mum and I went on two trips with this company and we enjoyed them both. The vans were fairly new, very clean and in good condition. Both the driver and the tour guides on each trip were friendly and professional. It was great having a bilingual guide who was able to translate all the information for my mum, even when she was the only English speaker on one of the trips. I would thoroughly recommend Artay viajes and would book another trip with them if I'm in the region again.
