Beautiful park, nice to walk around, not many steps, great scenery, not too cold and windy in December, still get some sun. Peaceful and quiet for a stroll.

When I visited, the park was still hosting late autumn vegetation. This made it a pretty place to take a stroll in.

I've been through this park in all four seasons and each season has it's special qualities. The Autumn change of the leaves is simply stunning, then the snow through the park is equally as beautiful. The green trees in spring and summer are also special.

I've been on walking tours through the park and there are over 5km of tracks you can walk, down by the moat and up through the old castle site. The park is deceptively large.

Takaoka Kojo park is a lovely place in the city's downtown. Situated on the site of the former Takaoka Castle it boasts ponds and shadowed alleys, small Zoo and the sports' activities' grounds. It's beautiful any time of the year , but in spring when the cherry trees are blossoming the park looks absolutely fantastic. The pink and white cherry trees are everywhere and when one's strolling through the park it feels like floating on the clouds. Last visited April, 2004.

I agree with the other reviewers that this is a beautiful park. I stumbled upon it while visiting the Daibutsu (great Buddha), which is closeby, and was pleasantly surprised by the stunning scenery and the abundant wildlife. I especially enjoyed seeing a whole community of herons in the trees.
You can pay for boat rides, and I've heard the park really impresses in the cherry blossom season, which I was just a little too late for.

I am writing this review, however, not to praise the park, but to communicate my sentiments about the zoo located in it. This zoo felt like a torture spot for exotic animals. The cages were tiny, and in one I saw an animal clawing at the walls trying to escape. It wasn't pleasant at all, and to have such a place inside a park where you can see incredible wildlife in their natural environment seemed silly.
I suppose you could say it's a great place to take children, as there is also a play area in the zoo, but I cannot endorse it.

I used to live in this area and it was so pretty and relaxing. I used to cut through it to go to different places in Takaoka. While the cherry blossoms are out it is incredible. The shrine in the middle is really beautiful and well maintained. I went there while there was an event and it was great! Definitely a must do!

This is a lovely park with river, shrines, beautiful gardens and lovely statues peppered throughout. Lots of people out walking in the morning, and worthy of a good hour exploring, or coming back more than once.
