We enjoyed our visit. We saw butterflies, eggs, and caterpillars. It was $12 per adult (our 12 yo son is considered an adult here) if you are not a citizen or resident, so it was $36 for the 3 of us which was quite expensive.
There is a building you enter to see the butterflies and we spent ~30-40 minutes and although it was wonderful, the price is too high.
There wasn't an English speaking guide available so we were unable to take advantage of that aspect of a visit.
There are a couple of swings for kids under 12, bathrooms and working on a restaurant.
Overall, nice visit but wouldn't come back due to price of entry.

The guide was very informative and helpful. The butterflies are amazing and plentiful. Blue Morphos most gorgeous. They are planning a restaurant soon. A beautiful location- quaint, clean and a gift shop with cute patio seating w a beautiful breeze. We asked about a place nearby for food and drink and MadFish was recommended. Excellent! A great experience today. Recommend for family, tourists and locals.

This is an enchanting little place and run by the sweetest gals you can imagine. I was completely ignorant of butterflies but am now more informed thanks to the tour. There were several children there and it was great fun watching them interact with the butterflies. I was most charmed by the bowl of 'feeders' by the entry...popsicle sticks with tiny sponges affixed and soaked in orange Gatorade (! who knew?). The grounds are small, but I did notice a couple of picnic tables under shade trees so if one were traveling with kiddos, I would be tempted to take box lunches there. It might be a good idea to call to make sure that would be okay, but I suspect it would be fine.

We saw more butterflies in this one spot than ever before!
Our guide gave us a very informative explanation of how the butterflies develop from the egg to caterpillar to the pups on to becoming a beautiful butterfly!
Then we were left on our own to enjoy the butterflies for as long as we desired!

This little gem is in Escazu,an upscale suburb of San Jose, and convenient to get to. It is a relatively small area, but the people who run the butterfly farm are warm, friendly, and knowledgeable. One of the owners took us through the life cycle of butterflies and moths using live eggs, pupa, and hatching butterflies. She the showed us where they lay there eggs and which plants each of the species eats. The butterfly enclosure allows you to sit and listen to soothing music while being surrounded by a rainbow of beautiful butterflies.

This is a wonderful place to visit for an hour and a half or so. We were alone when we visited, and got a very through explanation of the various butterflies we saw, as well as various details about their life cycles. This was a great opportunity for photos. The only difficulty was getting transportation back into San Jose - our Uber couldn't find the place, and there weren't taxis around. It also has a different, higher price for tourists than locals.

Great little butterfly kingdom. Excellent, well informed introduction around the links between butterflies (in their various stages of development) and plants and another animals. Superb collection. Spent a good hour or so on the morning before departure. $12 entrance - worth it - and supports the facility.

The Butterfly kingdom stayed open an hour past there closing time for my college group. They were extremely helpful and informative about the butterflies. They never made us feel rushed and were are very welcoming. Will definitely recommend them to my friend and family who travel to Costa Rica. Thank you so much!

Our grandsons, 6 and 4, loved it! The introductory presentation was well done. Area to view butterflies is spacious and includes opportunity to "feed" the butterflies. We'll definetly return.

It is a small place, but excelente for its purpose, to see a bunch of butterflies. And the owners are so lovely and you can buy a pulp to bring home and see your own butterfly born.

Is this a good place to go if it is raining that day? Is it indoors?

Yes, it is, at least most of the area. It would still be good to have an umbrella as you pass from one covered spot to another.
