Average but a bit tacky
kwi 2021 • Dla rodziny
We went as a rainy day activity. It was OK. Impressive caves and formations but a bit tacky with the coloured lights and tat shops midway round. The best thing about this visit was discovering the the Ruyi Peak cable car on the way back. We stopped off there - now that’s an attraction! Suspension bridges, glass walk ways and views to die for, even in poor weather.

Not really so interesting

Nothing special... just some rocks inside the cave. I will not recommend for this place. Specially for teenagers.

This place was massive!! The colored lights add so much. I really enjoyed seeing this. We walked for about an hour and saw one cavern after another.

Enter the Cave like a Kid to Enjoy
gru 2019
The Silver Cave is the largest karst cave in Guilin. The cave requires a bit of imagination to enjoy the experience. Before you enter the cave, you will be given an audio electronic recorder and earpiece that will alert you of each landmark when you enter the cave. There are both English and Chinese audio electronic guides. These recorder will be collected at the end of the trail. You will need to pay a fine if you lose it so do take care of it. Once you enter the cave, you will walk past various checkpoints. There is only 1 route so you will not get lost. The whole route is around 1 hour to 1.5 hours depending on your pace and times you stop to take photo. You can factor around 2 hours including the shopping time outside the cave. Each checkpoint will ask you to look up, left or right at a formation. You need a bit of imagination, as the recorder will claim that the structure is the shape of a religious monument, mythical being or an animal. To enjoy the experience, you need to forget you are an adult and visualise it like how a kid will to enjoy the experience. Otherwise you will be bored quickly. Along the way, there are photographers who will take free shots of you that will then be charged if you like to buy the photos later. At the end of the trail, you will also visit a row of shops selling Buddhist symbols, herbs or local Guilin products. There will also be salesmen trying to convince you to buy photos with frames that they will charge a premium for. It is a highly commercial experience but entertaining if you imagine the structures like how a kid will.

One more note is that you need to take good care of your health during winter. I went there in December at 9 degrees in the morning. It is cold outside during winter but warm in the cave. If you take off your jacket during the visit, do put in on before you leave the cave. This is to avoid catching a cold while you loosely dressed and sweating in the cave.

It was ok
gru 2019
Cave is ok lots of coloured lights. You have to go around with a guide and unfortunately ours didn’t speak any English so we didn’t really know what was going on she moved quite quickly through the cave which didn’t give us enough time to read any of the information.

Once in China!... Why not!
paź 2019
You can left alone as the last of things to do. I have visit caves in USA and in South East Asia (Hang En included), so the bar is high for me. But, If you don't have a point of comparison, this cave is worth the time once in the area.

It's the most visited cave by world leaders as a reference, not that you might mind. And its multicolor light displays might be set for other cultures' taste. But better do not let pass the chance when having time to kill.

It doesn't require a guided tour with plenty of transportation available to reach the cave and other places in the area, and tour guides around coming with groups. The entrance's ticket is not cheap in comparison to other atractions so keep that in mind.

You are not obligated to do it in a certain time, with two hours is plenty to even rest inside having an snack sitting in the main cave that serves as standing auditorium (few sitting spots are available) to watch a video recording using the ceiling walls as the screen.

You can make some time for yourself letting the guided tours to move on, staying behind, but using the others staying behind like you as reference on your photos as the colorful set ups could be overwhelming to make sense without the human figure around to help in your takes.

Due its colorful displays, photography could be challenging with better video recording the experience (with the chance to still shooting pictures in the process as a plus).

Gaudy, over-commercialized, with a sprinkle of animal cruelty
gru 2019
A magnificent cave with many awe-inspiring structures and formations, but the endless parade of LED multi-colored lights, cables, electrical devices and stalls of people selling souvenirs really dampens the experience. Especially infuriating is one section where a dozen or so turtles are placed in a dirty pool of water littered with paper bills and coins (people throw them in for good luck). Then there are a couple of larger turtles and a big tortoise encased within tiny boxes, with literally no where to turn or crawl, looking sickly and absolutely miserable. Definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. I went with my family in DEC, which is off-season, and yet the cave was crammed with tourists, often marching along in a line without much room in between. It gets warm and humid down in the cave, so get ready to smell a whole lotta body odor from everyone around you! Overall, it’s a gaudy cave ruined by careless development and handling.

Impressive cave

Impressive cave. Mind you that it is humid and rather hot inside so sweating because of the extensive walking and stair climbing is to be expected. A lot of merchandising around hinders a rather good experience.

Beautiful cave worth visiting!
paź 2019
i give it a 3-star rating, although i think its worth a visit if u've never seen one of these caves before. If u have been to similiar caves (say, in Yaolin, Tonglu, China etc) then its just a matter of size.
And this one is typical of the rest of them in China, lit with gaudy multi coloured LED lights.
the cave takes an hour or so to walk in and out, and the stalagtite and stalagmite structures are beautiful, and your entry ticket comes with an audio unit that explains the various formations as u walk thru the cave. Lighting level is low in the caves, i was shooting at 1/8 ~ 1/15 of a second with my camera at f2.8.
Still, its a nice place to visit. my main complaint of course, is that a single colour (say 2700K LED) light is more than enough to showcase the beautiful structures within. the multi colours are a distraction which i can never understand.

Crowded, go early!
paź 2019 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
I already knew what to expect so I wasn’t deceived. It is like a light show, beautiful at first, but it gets tiresome to follow others for quite some time and when you get to the spot where there is water, everyone rushes into a bottleneck to get their picture taken. I managed to snag a few in between people rushing into the spot. Since I am not a fan of crowds, half the length would have been fine for the experience, as besides from certain unique spots, it gets pretty much more of the same. What’s more, the exit is a mile long path of souvenir stalls, going through a maze, to the outside for some more, and yet, into another building for even more, before the final exit. Worth for getting pictures but go at the earliest. I was there at 9:30 (no lineup getting in), and it got far worse after I got out.
