In Japan, most of the observatory deck on top of skyscrapers are indoor only (means glass wall exist), but this one has an open top available for visitors (maybe closed due to bad weather), so you can take great photos and won't be blocked by glass. Highly recommended if you love taking sunset/night scene, during new year they even have a special opening hour for people to view the first sun rise in the year!

I had a very good feeling when walking on the roof, listening music and enjoying views on Osaka. I have heard, that weddings take place there. It must be magical...

This building is certainly noticeable! A lot of cheap, affordable eateries, and we went to this restaurant serving Japanese curry (I should've taken the name of the restaurant, it was cheap and tasty!). A lot of people, even when it was getting late.

Yes the roof of the City does offer you a magnificent view of Osaka as it should be the tallest building in Umeda. It's also a good idea to go there at dusk as you can enjoy the sunset and night view. However, it can be very crowded and the romance that it intends to portray can be easily ruined. Also, it's in fact quite remote from Osaka Station. Heading northwards from the station and passing a long underground walkway to get there, you may feel exhausted especially after touring around the city for a whole day. So, if you are worn out and not into the night scene of Osaka, simply forget about it.

when I travel, always look around heritages, monuments or historical places. however, if you visit some modern places, you can feel "current life" of contemporary people in the city. on the arrival date, it was quite late evening at the hotel, then tried to visit one of places to see night view of the city. There is sky lounge, does not look very high from a distance, however, it is high enough as a landmark. on the ground, there is open free pub every weekend. It is different from my culture. this place is like standing buffet which seems hard for me to talk friendly and long with companies. but people look do not care about their legs! Anyway, one time visit is good enough to the roof top to watch the night view.

It's a typical urban city where you have offices, high end department stores, and typical shops that you can find in a urban city. And all of that in a smaller scale, compared to Tokyo.

Tip: If you're heading to Tokyo as part of your trip, then you can skip visiting Umeda.

Really beautiful views. Just the place to chillax & enjoy the view with your partner or family. There is a cafe up there & maybe some restaurants (saw the name but no sight of entrance), so you can have a snack or drink while up there. Set aside 2 hours for this. Try to time your visit such that you get to enjoy both daylight & night view.

If you want say something with your lovers, I would suggest this place to do that. Sitting side by side to see a very nice of city light is very romantic. You can also buy a key and hang here to be the witness of love of you two.

After visitin Osaka Castle, we also wanted to have a glimpse of "modern" Osaka and went to Shin Umeda City. My recommendation is that you leave Umeda station and go to "Sky Building" (SkyBiru). Once there you can go to the observation terrace on the top floor (if you are on a budget, just stay on the floor below the terrace and save the entrance fee). From the terrace, enjoy very nice views of Osaka. Please note two interesting views on the southwes side: there is an old church building on top of the the 11th floor terrace of Monterey Osaka hotel building (the hotel continues way up many more floors surrounding the church. The other view is the elevated highway going through a building a few meters west of Monterey Hotel.

Aside from being an interesting piece of architecture, these twin buildings provide quite an experience in getting to the top (see through lift and external elevators) and extraordinary views over Osaka all round. Open till quite late, it is very popular at sunset when we went, but even more so after sunset when the locals come up to enjoy the lights. The main lift is great, but if you want to avoid the crowds (as in you don't like queuing forever to get a lift) avoid the post sunset time. A must see and do experience!
