More like a hill easily walked by most, than a mountain. The highlight, is the statue of the five goats at the mountain summit. Being a frequent visitor to Guangzhou, for my house, I bought a porcelain model of the five goats (often referred to many as the five rams).

The stories around the five rams (or are they goats) is fascinating. The are regarded as saviors of the city. It is a a bit of an uphill walk to get to the upper level where the statue is located. I suggest taking the shuttle one way, and enjoying the leisurely sightseeing on the other trip.

Just visited Yuexiu Park today and the park was so huge, it took up about 3 to 4 hours to cover the area including short rests in between to soak in the views and relax, which anyone should stop to do when they visit this place. The park has full of lush greenery and includes many of Guangzhou's famous historical landmarks, so it's quite worth the visit. Speakers are set up all around the park playing relaxing Chinese music as you stroll along. Getting there is easy, you can take the Guangzhou metro train directly to the main entrance of the park, or if you're visiting Sun Yat Sen Memorial (where the train stops as well), there's an entrance to the park right next to it. I did the latter, so from the memorial and upon entering the park, I just walked and among the landmarks I came across in the park were:
1) The Sun Yat Sen monument - near the entrance next to the memorial, and you have to climb over 100 stairs to get to it (consider it good exercise)
2) The Guangzhou Musuem - Located around the centre of the park. Entry fee is RMB10 to visit this 4 level museum which houses relics from the various Chinese dynasties. I personally did not find it that interesting as the arrangement of items felt pretty random which not much historical timeline explained.
3) The Ancient City Wall - Walk around the musuem to see the wall, it looks cool and pretty ancient
4) The 5 Rams Statue - Behind the museum is a path leading to the statue. Not much ado except that it's a big statue of 5 rams
Yuexiu Park also includes a few waterfalls, some lakes where you can rent a paddle boat and enjoy boating in the lakes, as well as some interesting stone sculptures. There are many other lesser known places to visit within the park itself and even 4 hours was not enough to cover it all. Great place for nature and history lovers.

Yuexiu Park and Yuexiu Mountain are famous for being one of the city’s symbol, being the Five Rams sculpture. It is located atop Yuexiu Mountain, or better called Yuexiu Hill. A myth has it that immortals rode the rams into the city and taught the locals how to grow rice. Other stories have the rams chasing evil beings out of the city. In the legends I’ve heard, the goats are the saviors of the city and considered the city’s good luck symbol.

The statue was erected in 1959 and produced from more than 130 pieces of granite. The statue is located in Yuexiu Park, which is China’s largest urban park.

Although there were a lot of people in the park today, by far the most crowded place was around the sculpture of the five rams.

A great day out spent at the Yuexiu park after I stumbled in from a Visit to the Sun Yat Sun Memorial hall around the corner!
Park Entrance lead me up about 498 stairs, I believe, although its know as the 1000 stairs, to the Sun Yat Sen Memorial tower, from there I followed the pathways through beautifully adorned tree scapes and plants to what appeared to be a ancient tomb burial ground, then past the Yuexiu Stadium, to the wonderful Zhenhai Tower (10 RMB to enter) after exploring that I strolled around to the 5 Ram statue dedicated to traditional Guangzhou folklore and back out the side entrance on my way to the Sanyuan Palace (Taoist Temple) around the corner just out side the park.
The park was wonderful and Ive not yet seen it all, its huge with lakes and museums and also a fun fair, there is a small tour car that can drive you all around If your legs are not ready for the walk, (approx 12 RMB) worth a visit!

This fine urban park is home to many varied activites and sights. It is easy to get to by subway line # 2 and at the same time you can visit the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall. The hall has a large auditorium and stage and on the floors around the theater are informative panels of Guangzhou and Chinese history with some fascinating early photos of heroes and leaders. The hall is fronted by a beautiful garden, labeled trees and the large statue of Sun Yat Sen.

After visiting the all you can enter Yeuxiu through one of the nearby gates and doing so will provide a glimpse of why local peole go there. Tai Chi, Tango, Shuttlecock kicking, and of course just watching others or sitting on a shady bench reading. There is a multi-story history museum that offers a great city vista, an excavated tomb and ancient ship, an art museum, a section of Ming Wall and the very popular 5 rams statue. This park is also a haven for photographers with the city flower of Guangzhou in abundance and so many visitors. there is also a guard tower in the center of the park. If you have been sightseeing a lot and need a quiet respite I recommend this park.

How no one seemed to mention this inner city paradise is beyond me.
Its free.
Spend 4-5 hours wandering through this park that has all the variety of China on 100 hectares. Filled with winding paths, a major hill and a surprise around every corner this is the must see of Southern china.

As you walk through the park you will be surprised to see an enormous football field hidden behind a few leaves, a few locals singing chinese opera amongst themselves, a childrens theme park, a boat ride, an amusement park, a sculpture park, a korean garden, lovers walking and holding hands, a magnificent hotel with some of the finest cantonese cuisine raning from 30Yuan for Vegetables to 9,888 Yuan about $1700US for a banquet of fish Maul. It would take 3-4 visits to truly see it in depth and as well as the ancient towers, statues and picturesque gardens there are many more things available to make this a hilight of your China vacation.
Plus its free and clean.

The legend of the five rams goes back over two millennia and is the story of the founding of Guangzhou. It is a bit of a steep walk up Yuexiu Mountain.

This park is located in the city and easily accessible and the most popular icon of the Guangzhou Shi. Most tour company bring their tourists to here to take pictures with the Five Rams or popular known as the Wu Yang Zheng. Most tour company only stop here and nothing more. Indeed the park is very big to around at least take an hour. Suggest you go for a free and easy trip you will see more as what we do

Nice park easily accessible by metro and buses. It gets busy at weekends and public holidays so a mid week visit is best. Lots of trees, gardens and lakes and shade. Plenty of food and drink outlets. Very well maintained and of course the statue of the 5 rams.
