Great way to travel to Helsinki
cze 2019
Why would you fly when you can take this train – fast, comfortable, quick immigration processing on the train, central departure and arrival. We bought our tickets on line several months in advance on the Russian RZD website with no problems, first class was only about 8,500 roubles per person and included a very good breakfast. Extremely comfortable and spacious seats. But standard class looked very good also.
Just be aware that there is a separate Allegro lounge at the railway station, which is off to the side from the main entry. Our taxi (Yandex) dropped us at the main entry and it was only after we had put our luggage and ourselves through security screening and I mentioned Helsinki to one of the officials, that they pointed us in the right direction (which meant another lot of security). We took the early morning departure and our train was not very crowded (only two others in first class but still only a few dozen in the waiting lounge, and that was in late June). Arrived into Helsinki refreshed just after 10am, ready for a near full day of sightseeing.

Rough Ride
sty 2020 • Pary
Took the train from St. Petersburg to Helsinki. It’s a practical route, only 3 1/2 hours. But I was really surprised how rough the ride is, you’re moving back-and-forth like you’re on a boat!

My equilibrium was off for a few hours after this journey, just from trying to read while the train was swaying back-and-forth. So if you are the type that gets a bit queasy with motion, definitely take a window seat and travel during the day so you can see outside.

Travel from Helsinki to St Petersburg
lip 2019
Allegro is a high-speed train service, operating Alstom VR Class Sm3 trains, between Helsinki, Finland, and St. Petersburg, Russia

Here are my comments
- Easy to book and manage via Finland VR offical website. Don't do it via Russia Railway Web site, nightmare!
- Reservation can be done in 90 days in advance. Do it by yourself, save money for travel agent's help
- Compartment is clean and comfortable
- Value for money to go St. Petersburg in 3.5 hrs time
- Definitely first choice to/from Helsinki and St. Petersburg
- Reminder: St. Petersburg's Finlyandskiy Railway Station is old and mess, please do arrange your pick up before arriving.

This train to Helsinki is one of the best ways to get there

The Allegro train to Helsinki is scenic, convenient and very clean. Excellent connection at each end, and easy customs/check in procedure. The coaches are typical European standard. The train is not very high speed, and does have several stops.

Excellent connection between St Petersburg & Helsinki airport
sty 2019 • Biznesowy
Excellent train connection from St Petersburg to Helsinki airport - fast and easy access to the train and in 3h+ you are in Dickersby where you change train without paying extra and in some 10 minutes you are at Helsinki airport.

Very practical and calm - with internet onboard Allegro train, possible to eat some simple but good food. Read a book, work on your laptop or whatever you feel like.

And good service - no need to walk through customs or passport control stations - they come to you - friendly and talk good Russian, Finnish and English.

I like!!!!!

The best way to travel in Europe.
paź 2018 • Pary
Allegro Trains are fast, reliable, clean and easy to book and schedule, would highly recommend using Allegro especially travelling between St Petersburg and Helsinki. There are challenges at the stations and no-one is overly helpful with directions, so take it on yourself to locate the platforms and train numbers, which are in English (as well as Russian). However once on the train, excellent service. Where possible travel the business or first-class carriages, well worth the comfort.

efficient but not up to European High Speed train standards
wrz 2018
We travelled business class which has a meal included and coffee and mineral water with a little chocolate bar are freely on tap. There is a buffet car too which we did not try. The seats are not that comfortable compared with other High Speed Trains we have travelled on. Service is efficient. Unfortunately the various customs controls and multiple stops means this trat just under three and a half hours takes rather longer than would otherwise be the case.

Clean, efficient and fast train from St. Petersburg to Helsinki
paź 2017 • Pary
We had booked a taxi with reception for 09:30 to take us to the ‘Finlyan train station’, just across the Neva River, he arrived early which suited us, so it will soon be goodbye to St. Petersburg and Russia and Hello to Helsinki and Finland. He dropped us at the exact entry for the fast trains to Helsinki, with plenty of time to spare.
Entrance gates were not open yet but as we waited, the room started to fill with passengers and before you really noticed the time, we were moving through Customs and security and onto the train. We are in Carriage Number 2 near the front of the train, next to the 1st Class carriage (where we stored our luggage as it was closer to our actual seats in Second class). We left the station at precisely 11:30.
The train is an 'Allegro' Fast train, Number 783, it is like new, clean and comfortable, 2nd class configuration is 2 Seats / Aisle / 2 Seats and we are sitting backwards in Seat 7 and 8. As we progressed our speed seemed to fluctuate between about 190 to 220 km/hour so we making good time with our destination scheduled to be reached in 3 hours, 27 Minutes at 14:57 local time, same as St. Petersburg.
Before long Russian Customs checkers were processing everyone, via their small portable electronic units and taking finally our outgoing passenger cards that we have had to keep with our Passports (under pain of big fines if we lost them) since we entered Russia, weeks ago.
Announcements are in Russian, Finish and English and we arrived at our first stop of Vyborg at 12:25 for 10 minutes.
We got 'Cabin Service' and we bought juice and Coffee. The Dining car gets closed during the border crossing at 'Vainikkala' where we stopped at 12:57 for 7 minutes but the actual border was some ways back.
Finland Immigration/Customs Officers entered here and processed and stamped our Passports with a nice little train stamp.
Next stop was Kouvola at 13:43 for 2 minutes
Next stop (sorry for the boring commentary, but, nothing much else is happening) was at ‘Laht’i at 14:09 for 2 minutes as well
Next stop was ‘Tikkurila’ at 14:43 for 1 minute, the train fare on this train apparently includes the cost of shuttle train from here to the airport which is a handy tip if you have connecting flights. The weather has been fine until now; it is now raining with the outside temperature unknown.
We arrived in Helsinki Central Station at 14:37.exactly on time.

Fast and Comfortable
maj 2018 • Pary
We travelled from St Petersburg to Helsinki on the Allegro Train which was fast and comfortable. Economy Class for this relatively short journey of just 3:5 hrs was perfectly acceptable. Check-In was a little chaotic, however staff were on hand and very helpful. Once on the train the Russian and EU customs and immigration formalities were completed very efficiently at your seat and it was a pleasant scenic ride to Helsinki. Recommended.
