*what an Experience
gru 2019
The camel tracing track,is approx 30 minutes from Waldorf Astoria by taxi, the racing starts at 6am and lasts for approx 3 hours. It is very casual and you can wander around the starting area and get very close to the camels, the locals were very hospitable and took time to explain what was happening and the procedures, I believe our wives were the only women present and everyone was very friendly to them. No grandstand or seating, you literally follow on the road alongside the track as the camels race and each race is approx 8 k.
Well worth the experience in spite of the early start,

racing with a difference
paź 2017
You need to get up very early and find a taxi driver who knows how to get to the track! It is in fact only a 20 minute journey from Ras Al Khaimah but, because he couldn't see any action, our driver nearly turned back. Only at our insistence did he stay and we were rewarded by being able to watch several races.
Once found, the venue is exhilarating and great fun. Watch the small 'jockey' robots as they whip the camels along. On a parallel track, the owners/trainers of the camels speed alongside their camels in 4 by 4s
The racing is over within a couple of hours and only on certain days of the week so research first!

Fabulous way to experience a local sport
mar 2018 • Pary
Absolutely loved the camel races. Thos sport is the national sport so it's a great way to experience it and meet locals. Races start around 7am on Fridays through April. It was done by 07.30.

We took a taxi to the track and our driver stayed with us. Turns out he enjoyed the races too. We spent some time before the races mingling with all the camels and locals. Then we lined up and watched 2 races. It was quite entertaining. The owners follow the 5K or 10K track in their cars alongside the camels. The races are also filmed.

We had a great time and highly recommend this. If we were here next Friday, we would go again.

Unforgettable
lut 2017
Over the years I've seen some programmes on TV about camel races and I had this picture in my head about young jockeys riding the camel side by side doing their best to reach the goal line first. However this was something completely different! No jockeys but small robots on the back of the camel that keep on whiping the camel to run faster and all these arab men in white dresses driving their huge SUVs along the track. I didn't find out whether they were using a remote control to give orders to the robot or did they drive alongside their own camel just to give their support. Anyway, everything looked so absurd, like two races running pararell.

The track is situated near the airport and it's quite difficult reaching the place without your own transportation so the best thing would be to rent a car. If you're staying in Ras Al Khaimah it's possible to do it with a taxi without having to pay too much. If you're driving from Dubai you should reserve two hours to the drive. The race starts at 6.30 am on Fridays, but you don't have to be there that early, maybe one hour later as there's maybe 10 races that will look the same to you if you're not into the thing. We just followd a couple of races and the stopped for a while to take pictures of those warming up and training the camels.
Well, the whole thing felt absurd and a bit confusing, but being a part of their culture, it's absolutely worth the visit.

Fun, and worth the trouble :)

We're currently staying at the Rixos Bab al Bahr and I've read about the camel race track a few places. However, none seem to actually provide any decent info, and our hotel didn't seem to know much either. So we took a chance and booked a taxi. We went on a Friday, but heard that they were also going to race the next day.

Arrived as the first guest at 06.10 - it was somewhat difficult for the taxi driver to find the entrance. Should be hard, but in the dark it's a somewhat difficult. When you see a big gate with camels on, you're on the right track. If there's some pictures of what looks like important men on top of the gate you're at the right place. Go through and take a right and you're there :)

Walked around a little bit - it's possible to get snacks, water, tea, coffee etc. very close by.

People started showing up at around 06.30. (That's AM to you Americans)
First race began 06.50

It's free, and the people are nice. It's not very structured, but it's pretty easy to figure out what's what when you're there, and it's a fun way to explore the local culture. There were only about 5 tourists in total today, and the locals were very welcoming.

Many write that you need to have a taxi waiting for you - we opted to do that (at 25 Dirhams per hour), but we might as well have asked one of the super nice locals to call on for when it was done.

We stayed for two hours which was more than enough.

Would I recommend this to a friend - sure thing!
