Tough trail, spectacular view!
lis 2019
The trail was sandy and dry. It was quiet tough to walk on the sandy trail but the view was so much worth it. However, there were many trash on the way. Hopefully the authorities will do something about it as the trash may harm the nature and pollute the beauty of this wonderful mountain.

Never ever again

Never ever again !
We climbed Rinjani 8 years ago and had great memories of our climbing adventure, so when we heard that rinjani is back open, but could only be booked by an app called e rinjani we were very excited to say the least.
This app only works for Andriod Phones which made a booking difficult to say the least, after securing an old phone and downloading the app i could finaly make a booking. At the moment they only allow one night 2 days with all this Covid Restrictions, which was not ideal but we still went for it.
We booked as Indonesians as me and my friend lived here more then 30 years and have our own KTP and KITAP, after organising our porters via a friend we are all set to go.
The day we arrived in Sembalun we checked into the Hotel next door to the National Park Office, since we wanted to start early the next day we thought we better check in the day before. We had to wait 2,5 hours until some officer finaly came, and thats there the trouble all started. Our Porters were already with us and ready to assist, but as soon as the officer saw as ,and we showed our booking he said it was not valid but will check with his boss. After a while he came back to us and said, because we are foreigners this booking is not valid and we have to book as tourists which is a 150 k a day compare to 5 k for Locals per day. Ok i thought this is a little dicriminating but still Ok as we really wanted to hike this beautiful mountain again. But after we agreed to pay the higher fee he then instisted that all foreigners have to book through a trekking organiser, which we did not need as we booked our own porters and had all our food and gear ready to go. On top of that he also demanded to get another local health certificate which was not mentioned anywhere in the app, we already had to do the covid test were the certifacte was provided according to the new regulations.
After about 10 minutes a trekking oraganizer arrived and the first thing he said was i can help you, but I am expensive 350 USD per person as mentioned on the internet, compare to not even one Dollar what locals would pay. Of course we did not go for his rip off, and left the office immediately. They have no business and all the locals are struggeling due to the earthquake and pandamic. It makes me sad and angry at the same time, sad for the locals as they would really need our salary to survive asit was only there second job all year according to them, and extremely angry at the officals of this nationalpark as they were not willing to help and interested to honor our booking as local residents. They are part of Unesco now, maybe they don t even want any hikers there anymore and they have enough funding already.
So as a foreigner even if you lived in Indonesia for over 30 years and pay your taxes and employee 130 staff, you will never ever be a local in there eyes. This authorties at the office are discriminating to say the least.
We spent our 3 days climbing some surrounding hills, and met some great local people and none of them could understand why we got denied to climb Rinjani. Its a shame because it is a beautiful place but can not be recommended anymore...........thanks for reading it all!

Awesome mountain trek, especially with Ace Adventure Expeditions!
lip 2020
If you are from Singapore and thinking of climbing Mount Rinjani, do consider doing so with Ace Adventure Expeditions (AAE, Singapore-based)!

The stunning beauty of Mt Rinjani, its crater lake, the ridges and valleys was needless to say. However, what made the trip even more memorable, was the “human-centric” priority set by my trek leader Joanne Soo, and her partnering team of local trekking guides and porter crew during the climb.

It was not meant to be a luxurious trip, yet there were so many good things to say about their care to the trekkers’ needs and welfare: adequate training advice, detailed pre-departure information, reliable land transfer arrangement, good camping equipment, well-portioned meals, forthcoming climbing guidance, etc.
In Joanne, we found an attentive, encouraging, and enthusiastic leader. Joanne fully understood the difficulty of the terrain, high altitude safety, and the average trekker’s fitness, to put together a thoughtful itinerary which paced the group well without leaving anyone behind. The last 1000 m toward the summit was entirely volcanic scree and exceptionally tough to climb. It was because of her spurring us on, that everyone made it to the top.

Based on a shared value on environmental conservation, for many years Joanne had repeated collaborations with the same local partner for the Mt Rinjani trek, thereby bringing income opportunities to their guides and porters, many of whom started working from a very young age. My trekking guide, Nandi, first met Joanne when he followed his father up the mountain at the age of thirteen. Admirably, AAE’s humane orientation was not just toward serving the trekking community, but also toward empowering their local partners in the developing countries visited.

Looking back, climbing Mt Rinjani with AAE was easily one of my most unforgettable adventure journeys as an amateur trekker.

Don’t go from January-March!
lut 2020 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
Don’t go in the rainy season! Some operators will still sell you the tour on the streets and say it’s possible, that this is a lie, but please don’t trust them. The weather is far too unpredictable and there are frequent landslides when there’s a lot of rainfall. Those operators just want to make money and unfortunately don’t care about your safety/ecological impact while the park is officially closed. Must be beautiful and amazing to visit in the dry season, though.

The Perfect Way to Climb The Mountain.
gru 2019
So you are thinking about climbing this mountain and deciding if this is a good way to spend your time in Lombok, Well you should definitely do this trek.

There are so many reasons for it, I will give you what you need to hear only.

First of all, This mountain is gorgeous and majestic, it offers something you won't see everyday, or even yearly. If you want to go here to spend with your family or partner or even friends, this is a perfect place to do that. Of course you have to be fit.
The most important part to get the most out of this experience is a great trekking organizer, there are so many out there and you are wondering which to choose, let me save you time from headache, Rinjаni Fοundаtiоn. From countless hours of researching and battled with my perfectionist personality. I can proudly recommend that to you all. I will comeback to tackle the summit this June with them and they offers summit trek start from April. I was lucky to have seats with them on June as they almost fully booked.

Great views, very tough, shame about the rubbish
mar 2019 • Pary
Mount Rinjani is a beast, but worth it.

The views from the campsites and the summit are awesome. This is what makes the hike worth it. The lake looks stunning in the crater below. But be prepared!

We read many reviews saying it was extremely hard, however none of them prepared us for the summit. Now we are relatively fit 25 year olds so thought we could tackle anything. Which we did but with difficulty. What makes it so hard is the sand like ground you are walking up at a very steep gradient. So every two steps you take forward is the equivalent to just one. It's also freezing!

We went with Cakrawala due to its great reviews and they didn't disappoint. Mr Sultan was great at organising everything and his guides and porters were fantastic.

The only grumble is the amount of rubbish up here. The mountain authorities try to employe a pack it out pack it in policy but it is not enforced. They must try harder!

Beautifully Dangerous
lut 2019
Actually been here in 2017, i just thought that i have to write about this beautiful woman. We hike through Sembalun and went down to Senaru. The hike was really really exhausting and tired. We took 3N4D, our expectation was 2N3D one of our friend got cramp, so we have to extend 1 night. You have to exercise at least 1 month run / other exercise train your stamina, because i got my back really hurt after the hike even we prepared for 1 month. Please prepare the physic, i think that s the key for all. Logistic and etc, normal, prepare for how long you will hike. Keep in mind, you wont regret this hike. So prepare yourself, give your best, give your maximum power. Its true some people say this mountain is the most beautiful summit in Indonesia :)

Incredible experience!
gru 2019 • Pary
Such an incredible, breathtaking experience to watch the sunset and sunrise in such a beautiful, truly magical place. We had amazing weather and the best tour guide ever. It is very very challenging, up and down. It is a loooong and steep hike but absolutely worth it if you’re in decent shape. Definitely top ten experiences of my life.
Don’t forget to tip your guide and especially the porters. What they’re doing is beyond anything most of us travelers ever could!

Avoid at all costs unless you want to camp on a rubbish tip - any ambience destroyed . Beware shoddy companies to inedible food and substandard camping gear .
