s this one any better than the others...no idea. Go up as many as you can and then enjoy the walk down. They are only 100 or 300 pesos each way. And boy, they are steep, no wonder they built them when there were no houses along the shore. This is located between Plaza de la Justicia, a quiet place in downtown Valpo and Paseo Yugoslavo. It has a sightseeing balcony with a vista of the bay and mountains.

I never, ever thought I would be in Valparaiso, Chile, let alone to be able to ride on one of these city elevators! I have seen them on travel programs about Chile throughout the years and then suddenly I was actually riding on one of them! (I had been on a similar one in Los Angeles, California, USA, in the late 1950s with my parents. This was a trip down memory lane for me.) This activity was fun and highly recommended to everyone.

We got attacked on the stairs near El Peral. If you go there, be very careful and do not take anything with you. We had felt no danger in that area and were on the way to our hostel at 9.30 pm and 2 guys attacked us from behind, totally to our surprise. We ended up being thrown down the stairs and got injured. Valparaiso has many stairs and little corners, so it is not the safest place.

If you visit the port, this trolley is just a block away from it. You can take it and get a nice view of the port and the houses located on the hills. There are some restaurants, gift shops and cultural centers.

Valparaiso is made up of numerous hills (some almost vertical!) which can be bad on the knees, so having this funicular is very practical! Cost only 100 pesos which is very economical! I liked the colourful tracks and the quaint feeling of riding this small funicular train :)

We walked down to the port area and took the little train back up to save our legs. A fun trip for CLP100. The entrance can be hard to find. Look out for ascensor sign.

I couldn't find the entrance for this funicular on the street, so I ended up walking up the hill which was a little scenic with all the artwork but does leave you a little winded and keeps you looking out for dog feces which is all over the ground. Once at the top, there is quite the view, including a signature view of Ascensor Artilleria and the surrounding hillside. This funicular had been renovated, and while you can still get the feeling, and its still affordable, it seems very modern. I ended up riding down and figuring out that this is actually behind a building down at the base. This is a signature part of Valparaiso, you should definitely check it out.

It is a frightening and old elevator but it is funny, tho most interesting part is top of hill and you face wonderful things, souvenirs, wall art and nice architecture.

Wonderful part of the historical fabric of ValparaĆso. Only about four ascensors, or really funiculars, are still working and date back to the late 19th century. Saves you a lot of time and energy to get to the top of a hill. Brightly painted and a bit of fun. Cheap too at between 100 and 300 CL pesos one way (approximately 20 to 60 cents Australian).

Ascensor El Peral was orginally built in 1902 to transport people from Cerro Alegre to Plaza Sotomayor and back again. It is now a historical monument and has been recently renovated. A one way ride is 100 Pesos. There are several funiculars operating on the hills above the port. Any one is worth a ride.
