Museum detailing the history of the city with Mapuche and Germans
lut 2020
This is a lovely restored old building, where the museum is based over 2 floors. The top floor details the Mapuche culture and has an excellent collection of Mapuche silver, as well as the explanation about the meaning behind the pieces, and the explanation is mostly also available in English. Other rooms show Mapuche textile and ceramics.
On the ground floor, every room details another period of history since the Spanish conquest, of this town. Starting with a room furnished with objects from just after the founding of the city, a room about Cochrane, the Scot that led the navy in conquering this city and the last forts around it. Then a room just after independence, and several rooms dedicated to the different waves of German immigrants. Some of the rooms are very nicely done, and the whole museum gives a good overview of Valdivia and its past.

A trip into Valdívia's past
paź 2019
Th house is very well kept, ths exhibited objects are carefully chosen and their placing permits a very good idea of Valdívia's history from pre-colombian times, with artefacts and jewelry of the Mapuches dating back to 4000 years B.C.! And with information of the Mapuches' social organization and customs. In sequence, one has a view of the spanish presence and then that of the german period. Very informative and well cared for. It is most certainly worth the visit. Plus the park in which it is is also a very nice place!

A little piece of Germany in Chile

German emigration required their own brewery and the owners built this house which has many rooms furnished as in the mid C19. Enjoyed it!

We thought this sounded really interesting, and according to its own information it was supposed to be open. Sadly not, and no information was posted at either entrance.

This is a very attractive building, inside there are various exhibits, but the set piece rooms are probably the most interesting.

Free for students- interesting collection

This colonial-style home overlooks the river and holds many items from the German/Spanish colonization as well as mapuche pottery upstairs. Interesting because many items are not behind glass, meaning you could get real close to admire them (but of course not touch!)

Great for a rainy day
kwi 2014 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
Situated in Casa Anwandter in downtown Valdivia, this museum is a trip back in time, full of old photographs and period furniture. There are also displays from pre-Columbian era cultures. I visited on a rainy weekday and there weren't many other people there. Easy to combine this visit with one to the Museo Arte Contemporaneo and the Museo de Exploracion on the same day as they are all in the same area.

The house is very well preserved and the location is just beautiful. It is a small but nice trip to the history of Valdivia and Chile.
