I'm not a prof at this field but very nice artefacts at the site, definitely worth a visit. Such a pity there is only one room.

Phenomenal museum.

So much work and effort was put in this place. It's comprehensive as can be, and feels like it could be worth twenty plus visits for studious and curious minds.

The price of admission is justified when you see their gardens with a glorious variety of tradional houses from various ethinc groups. It feels like walking onto a set of a movie with an alien planet.

Don't miss it!

a treasure trove of Vietnamese history

Most museums are for a broad public, for visitors that are very interested and were reading several books about certain topics, they will not find what they want because the overall museums are limited in their offer and information. Lucky we also have very specialized museums and the Museum of Anthropology in Ha Noi is one of them. During our visit we were guided by Bui Huu Tien, a famous researcher who wrote very interesting about the old Vietnamese history, but he was also a very good guide. It was clearly that he loved his work, he also could make the visitors share that enthusiasm. Although we all had complete different backgrounds, it was no problem for him. It was for all of us clear what he was telling. The museum isn’t very big, they’re planning to build a new one, I think it’s going to be great. Because they still have so many interesting objects in stock. We were allowed to visit those rooms too and somehow it is almost more impressive than the exposed material. It is a very strange feeling to walk through all those historic objects, Shelves full with artifacts you can easily touch them, but of course you don’t do that. About 20 years ago I was invited by the famous Dutch Rijks Museum (Amsterdam) to write an advise how to make the museum more friendly for visitors. As a special guest I was also allowed to visit all the rooms where they had their stock with paintings, objects… many thousands of them. An enormous depository full with centuries-old art.
In Hanoi that feeling came back. I could sit there for hours, no glass between me and the many thousand year old objects.
I hope they will keep the stock open for public in the new museum , it feels like you’re in a going-back-in-the-time-machine.
