Moose, bear and sweat

We have hiked several sections of the trail, some very remote and lightly traveled and others fairly busy, but the unspoiled woods and mountain views never disappoint. Be sure to review section details before hiking to avoid trails beyond your hiking skill. We encountered a youth in tears because the trail was too steep for him. Be prepared and enjoy.

The long trail is a great place to clear your mind and soul.

The long trail from the Stratton Arlington road to the US Forest rd on the other side of Bromley Mt is one of the best hikes. The Stratton pond shelter gets pretty crowded as it intersects with local trails from Manchester/Bennington but the tenting area is quite large. I tented off site so as to have some privacy and it was great. The fire tower on top of stratton was a little tall for my liking but the views are unmatched in southern VT.

Great trail. Not great for very cold weather, which unfortunately was the case for me. Nonetheless, loved the trail. , Great fall colors :)

A wooded part of the Appalachian Trail - great experience with variable terrain

Everybody has to do a part of this iconic trail don't they?
A ranger put us on to this part which starts right by the main road. We did a 5 mile round trip to Spruce Peak and back to follow up our earlier saunter around Equinox.
This one is for the mobile and has many elevation changes, tricky terrain and a few streams to leap.

Great hike near Rutland

We went onto the Long Trail near Rutland, VT. It was a great hike, as we made it to an Appalaichan Trail shelter before turning around to complete the hike. Great climb.

The long trail is a beautiful Vermont hiking trail and all of us can access it as a day hike, over night, or by walking long sections- or the entire length.

Hiking the Long Trail
lip 2014 • Znajomi
We stayed at the Green Mountain Inn, found a drive south and connected with the Long Trail and hiked north for 3 days, finishing with Mt Mansfield, hiking down to the road into Stowe. Hitchhiked, easily, back to Stowe.
The Long Trail was fantastic, well marked with great shelters and camping sites. We camped, but could have used the shelters.

A walk in the woods

What a fabulous way to spend three weeks. Far from the bustling crowds, arising at dawn in the hopes of seeing moose, you'll endure challenging hardships in order to traverse this rugged pathway.

You'll need to bring your own breakfast. The swimming pools are not heated.you sleep on a thin pad on the ground, or on a hard wood floor.

You'll wonder why you decided to hike the LT, but if you do it, you'll be rewarded with an experience you'll never forget.

A great place to unwind

I love the Long Trail, this trail is professionally taken care of with volunteers that really care about the trail. I plan another hike the last week of October. If you love to hike plan an over nighter on the Long Trail!!
