Replica of il Porcelain in Philadelphia
gru 2020 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
In the now defunct department store Strawbridge & Clothier there is a replica of this beloved piglet.
As a child I looked forward to rubbing his nose and dropping coins into the fountain.
I imagine this is where some of my luck has come from during my life time.

Nice touch!

Il Porcellino is a nice touch! It stands in front of Sydney Hospital, on Macquarie street. It is a gift from Florence and symbolises a lovely link between the two cities. This sculpture is a replica of the original, in Florence. Donations go to the Hospital. Worth a stop if you are passing by.

Polished nose

Outside Sydney Hospital, a gift from an Italian lady, as a memorial to her Father and brother, who were eminent doctors.
An exact replica of the 1547 original in Florence.
Good luck to rub the nose and leave a coin for the hospital.

This was right in front of the hospital and was a surprise to find this. It's easy to take photos. We were the only people there.

Good luck....
cze 2019 • Pary
The Wild Boar Fountain of Good Luck is outside the Sydney Hospital, on Macquarie street, just inside the front fence, but easily accessed. It is similar to several other such boars, in European cities, particularly in Italy. Its name is Il Porcellino and visitors are invited to rub its nose for good luck, and also make a donation for doing so. Donations go to a good cause. Nice enough attraction, particularly for tourists.

Big boar

Located outside the old Sydney Hospital building on Macquarie Street this bronze statue is popular with tourists and locals alike who rub its nose for good luck. Quirky statue but worth a visit.

Very popular with tourists, but I don't get it
sty 2019 • Znajomi
I often walk past here and see groups of tourists congregated around this statue rubbing its nose. It's apparently good luck to leave a coin and then rub the nose of the life sized bronze statue of a pig. Enough people have done it that the nose is actually a different colour to the rest of the statue. I've seen similar statues in a few place around the world. It seems like it's a thing and the first one of these statues was actually commissioned in 1621 by the Cosimo II de Medici. Donations left at this statue go to Sydney Hospital.

Cute and Quirky ‘lucky’ fountain
wrz 2018 • Pary
Sydney’s equivalent of Rome’s Trevi fountain – legend is that if you drop a coin in (in the donation slot rather than the fountain itself) and rub the boar's nose you will get good luck. A notice advises that all donations will go towards care of the sick in Sydney Hospital. Worth a quick photostop and may be a rub for luck.

Rub.

Odd statue that is a replica of a famous Italian statue. Apparently if you drop a coin in the water and rub the boars nose you will get good luck. Give it a try, you never know.
