Beautiful, but be aware.
wrz 2020 • Pary
Spent a lovely part day. Saw water vole and a good range of birds. Hides closed due to covid which is understandable. Friendly helpful staff.
However, be aware. We were eaten alive by mosquitoes. Between my wife and I, over 80 bites. So... If visiting, strong inspect repellent is a must with legs and arms covered. Can't fault the reserve though.

Get Back To Nature
lut 2020 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
Trying to get to Rye Meads Nature Reserve is a little challenging. I always seem to take a different route whenever I visit. There aren't many signposts. I really should use a set nav!

However it is well worth visiting. There are a large number of hides to visit to enjoy the wildlife. Make sure you take your binoculars.

The kingfisher hide is a must, speak to the staff who can give you more information and directions.

The A414 runs along one side of the reserve and the River Lea and the railway along another side but these can be ignored so you can enjoy the wildlife.

If you can screen out the road noise - it's a great place to be outside
sty 2020
We found this place by accident, but have come to love it as somewhere to cycle and walk without traffic although the noise from the A414 is a bit overwhelming. The reed beds are beautiful and for a real twitcher it must be a great place for bird watching.
Definitely somewhere we will be going back to again and again, especially as we can cycle there from home. There was a random toilet cubicle along the way, but unless you can use the loos in the yacht club I didn't see anywhere else for emergency relief!
Expect mud and potholes and slippery bits - certainly after the heavy rainfall we've had, but I'm looking forward to seeing it in the summer. Oh and there were lots of birds!

Lovely place - lovely day
lis 2019
As members of the RSPB we were keen to visit. Plenty of parking - free. Peaceful walks - easy walks. Spotted kingfisher as well as range of usual waterside birds.
Lovely place to get away from it all for the afternoon. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

A Good way to Spend A Few Hours.
lis 2019
The tracks leading to the reserve are in good condition and well-drained, even though it had recently rained. The viewing position by the bridge was today very busy as the sun was shining and for a crisp autumn morning not too cold.
The people watching the birds were all far more knowledgeable than me but didn't mind pointing out what was what. I thank them all.

Interesting place
sie 2019 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
This is a well organised RSPB reserve, the volunteers were very friendly and helpful.a large area to cover but the majority is very acceptable with all hides having ramps as well as steps. Like any nature reserve there are no guarantees that you will see what you had hoped for I did see a Kingfisher which I had gone in the hopes of seeing, all in all a reasonable place to visit. You can get a drink but only a few packet snack so I would advise packing food if you are planning an extended visit, the road immediately outside which you must use to enter the site is a toll road so be prepared to pay to enter and leave.

A must if you want kids out the house..
sie 2019 • Dla rodziny
For those parents looking to get their kids off their phones and outside, a good place to visit is Rye Meads Nature Reserve.
There are many things for young kids, from pond dipping where you can view a vast array of water wildlife to looking under logs for bugs. Bugingham Palace is a real treat for the young Attenborough’s of this world.
For the adults, a quiet place to sit and view the birds are several hides, where a large variety of water birds can be seen.
At no cost, except for parking, a wonderful day out.

Great welcome and a Kingfisher sighting !!
lip 2019 • Dla rodziny
Easy to find. Plenty of Parking and a great welcome from Jean in the Visitor centre who was both knowledgeable and informative.

We were also fortunate to catch a sighting of a Kingfisher flying from the nesting bank right over the Hide and the about 10 minutes later it flew back to a perch adjacent to the bank where it stayed for about 5 minutes before flying back to its nest.

A great day out and highly recommended.

A really pleasant place with many birds. Best of all we saw the Kingfisher. The nest is easy to see from the hide and worth the short wait. We were told to visit during May or early June and it was worth the distance travelled. There is a lot to see, it is tranquil and there are interesting things for children. A lot of walking!
