Fantastic hike combined with industrial archaeology
sie 2019
The canyon hike leads deep into the mountains, and is dotted with mine shafts where miners dug channels into the mountain sides to collect fresh water, the most precious resource on the island. The shafts have been closed off with gates, but some of the galleries can be visited. There are also numerous abandoned buildings with equipment (pumps etc.) around that give an insight in the scale of the mining activities.

I gave it a poor rating because we never did find it. Reviews even here on Trip advisor said it started in front of the Church? We never found any signage or people who new what it was!

We have climbed the north side of Barranco de Badajoz, walking from La Hidro ruins up to the Entrance to the Las ventanas de Guimar trail

Really interesting shortish walk.

Fabulous walk especially if you are interested in native plants. There are many good examples of native and endemic plants here. Also interesting if you like industrial archaeology. There are some interesting water galleries and their associated infrastructure.. Best to visit late morning/early afternoon because it looses it's sun in the afternoons! Can be quite cold too so bring some extra layers.

Great little walking trail.

Really enjoyed this walking route. Drove down the dirt road until we decided to rest the car tyres (small city car unlike the 4x4 everyone else has.)
The route is extremely straightfoward to follow with small side routes that take you to mining cart tracks, abandoned water pumps & dwellings.
The route ends abruptly after the last miners place, there is a blocked off cave (for safety reasons) & just a bit further a steep wall.
We tried to climb around it but to no avail. Spotted some raw plugs in the wall which indicates there is a seperate route around this with an abseiling descent.
The route is shrouded in mystery & folklore too although we didnt see anything out of the ordinary.
One of the random paths brings you to a beautiful area filled with robins & rabbits.
There is also a small cave to go through with is about 120m long.

Spooky atmosphere
kwi 2017 • Pary
We have been to the Barranco during an evening hike. Quite a large group of us, and would have been better in a small group to have appreciated more of an atmosphere. There is a strange feel to the place which for me was great. The legands of the locals, seeing Aliens, the missing girl and the Nazi activity all add to the feeling. The water galleries, some still in use, are great to see and to appreciate the difficult and dangerous work involved to find water.
Parking is tricky and is on the main track, find a suitable place and get out your boots. Suitable footware is recommende. The track is up hill but not difficult. Great place to visit if you like nature too.

Interesting, but not the best hikfrom e in Tenerife
lut 2017 • Pary
This barranco is prone to be overhung by clouds. This is because it captures the winds at an altitude of 600 m, and the wind has no way to go. You can see this easily from shape of this barranco in Google Earth. Also, you can observe it on live satellite pictures. If there are any clouds at all at the south side of Tenerife, then they are above the Barranco de Badajoz. There are a few fincas here, and the owners grow potatoes and wine. Because it is more cloudy here it is also more green than on both its flanks at the south.

It is said that if you go into it, you could vanish and nobody will be able to find you any more. Yo fancy scary things? ...Go, then.

a little know barranco near Guimar. medium difficulty walking, stunning scenery and interesting folklore ("route of fear"). Keep going right to the very end past the old mine and through the brambles to reach the actual end.

Amazing and Remote Blind Valley
lip 2012 • Dla rodziny
You will need a car to get there as it is quite remote... but worth the effort. It is a blind valley that you can walk into. (take good walking shoes) There are the old mines that were dug out to look for water and lots of old abandoned equipment. You will need and hour to walk in and the same to walk out. Be sure to take your camera as there are lots of photo oppurtunities. There is local folklore that says that ghosts and spirits roam the place at night. One of the best walks on Tenerife... if not the best
