Best walk you’ll ever find
kwi 2021 • Znajomi
The most beautiful walk in sunshine or on a dark and gloomy day as it changes what you can see dramatically. Even better if you can get up at sunrise as stunning then. And everyone you pass on the walk is incredibly polite and says Good Morning.

A glorious addition to the Solent Way
wrz 2020 • Dla rodziny
The stretch I am going to describe is not strictly part of the Solent Way. It is the coastal path from Barton on Sea to Milford on Sea which I include because it is totally different to the rest of the Way. The path traverses the eastern end of the cliffs comprising the Jurassic Coast so looks more like Dorset, complete with a Chine, in Hampshire called a Bunny. See photo looking down to the beach.
I have walked the path for over thirty years with my wife, friends and family at different times.

The walking is generally easy but there is quite a climb across Becton Bunny. If you are fit, you can climb further down to the shingle beach, where the cliffs provide a stunning multicoloured backdrop.

It is a fresh and exhilarating walk and is best started or finished at the Beachcomber Cafe which provides excellent local food, ice cream etc. The garden has a panoramic view of the Solent from Keyhaven and beyond, then across to Hengistbury Head and, in the distance, Studland and the Old Harry Rocks. There is also an easy slope down to the predominantly shingle beach which is rarely crowded and is ideal for junior water sports.

Just one proviso to this idyllic description, periodic collapsing of the cliffs. This has been going on for centuries but the latest, which started in 2013, has now resulted in part of the path near Milford being lost to the sea. As a result heavy plant work is now going on to create a new path on firm ground which necessitates a temporary inland diversion. Walkers who are new to the path need to know this but don’t be put off.
Hence my rating of four not five.

A Great Walk
wrz 2020 • Pary
A stunning walk on a Sunny Day but 'keep asking' passers by for directions as there are short cuts etc. The signage both from Lymington and on the path is poor. Read the history and check out the Birds (winged). Some rare sightings to be had eg Dartford Warbler

Not to be missed

What a truly fabulous walk. For three days straight we would head out after breakfast and walk for 4 miles or so along the sea wall and little diversions. The views are stunning and change with the weather, clouds and time of day. Everyone we would pass would say brightly Good Morning. One lovely old boy we’d see each walk at some point named us The Spice Girls. Great walk and experience

Great on foot but not on a bike
wrz 2020 • Pary
we did this walk many years ago, ie walked one way and got the passenger ferry back.On this occasion we rode on our bikes from Lymington to New Milton along keyhaven, and thought we would continue along the Solent way to hurst castle, but this was hard ward on a deep pebble footpath. So in summary use your feet and forget the bike if you want to go along solent way, definately just for the walkers and not bike riders. Will be back soon for the walk.

If you are looking for a relaxing walk with amazing views and the smell of the sea air, this is it. We did this at about 5 in the evening so thr sky colour was an amazing bonus on the way back. Definately one to do if you are a keen walker

Fabulous walk
lip 2020 • Pary
We used a car park in Milford on Sea and walked down to the seafront where there are a couple of cafes. The causeway (spit) stretches 2 miles into the sea with wonderful, panoramic views of the IOW Needles. The pathway is free from vehicles, apart from the odd tractor delivering to the castle, and is all stones. Nature reserve with still waters and the lighthouse to one side and crashing waves of the Solent to the other.
Well worth a walk and rewarded by a visit to Hurst Castle at the end, for a small fee, where there’s refreshments and toilets.

Glorious route
lip 2020
This route is referred to as a 'walk' but it is dual-use and we cycled it - from Beaulieu to Bucklers Hard.

The scenery is lovely with some diversity. About half way along, some people may want to look at the heritage site 'Baileys Hard': there is an interpretation board.

The route follows the river, but doesnt hug it, although it is well-signed. It is mostly quite flat, although some slight inclines. The surface is absolutely fine for walkers. However in parts there is awkward loose gravel.

enjoyable walk for everyone

Lovely walk starting at Lymington sea wall and continuing to the nature reserve at Keyhaven. Numerous paths and opportunities to spot birds and enjoy the lovely views. Suitable for all - can even cycle along the paths.
