I took my wife and a friend to the Sorrel Horse for lunch on Saturday 20th Jan, Table was booked for 1pm. We were greeted by a very pleasant lady bar staff. We chose two Specials Beef Stew and Dumplings and a Trout and salad with new potatoes from the menu. We were told that there would be a delay of about 20mins as they had to make the Dumplings. We took our drinks, looking at our watches and right on time the meals were presented at our table, the Trout which my wife ordered was superb (Her words not mine) cooked to perfection and accompanied by one of the biggest salads we have ever seen. Both Beef Stews were out of this world, the Dumplings were worth the wait, in fact to have Dumplings as good as these I would have waited all day. the cost of the meal with Mineral Water(All had to drive) came to £34.65. We shall certainly return, (I do hope that the Beef Stew is a regular on the specials board)!

Lovely staff, lovely food to suit all, generous size portions, nothing too much trouble, will recommend to others and will visit again when up this way . Dog friendly in and out .

We were so looking forward to having a drink and a meal at this very pretty, small village pub. However, the noise of children seemingly out of control in the car park, incl. throwing stones, whilst the parents very noisily enjoyed themselves inside, caused us to cancel our booking and go elsewhere. This is a very small, cosy country hostelry where such noisy revelry cannot but impact badly on all others trying to quietly enjoy the undoubted delights on offer.

Hi we went in the Sorrel horse today 15th oct 2022 we had to wait along time for the starters the Garlic Mushrooms were so hard not good at all. Then the mains came the chips were so awful. Then no one came over to ask if we were ok and did we want anything else my friend then went up to the bar and ordered our desserts which was very bad our plates were still on our table then after a while someone came to take them. The best thing about the meal was the cheesecake. It was our Anniversary so we took our friends out for a meal which was alot of money for what we had. We will never go there again.

This is a lovely country pub. The staff are always friendly. We have only eaten here a couple of times and the food was good. The only problem we have is the uncomfortable hard seats.

Firstly... probably the best burger I have ever had. It was absolutely unforgettable. What a gem of a pub, very dog friendly ( they even had their sausages delivered first) good beer, friendly atmosphere, overall just perfect and exactly what was needed after a long walk with the dogs. I wish all pubs were this good. Awesome.

My partner and I stayed at retreat east recently and visited the sorrul horse for our dinner. Though the inside is slightly outdated in terms of style, the beer garden is lovely and the lady on the bar was very helpful! There were a large group of loud women who were being rather rude which was a shame as it was clear that the staff were trying their best to make everyone happy! My fish and chips were to die for and my partner thoroughly enjoyed her grilled trout! Will defiantly be back when we stay at retreat east next!

I can only echo previous 1 star reviews.
This place is dated and food is certainly not good!
Reheated/microwaved lasagne.
Roast dinners flooded in gravy with potato overload.
Flat fizzy drinks (unless you order a can of coke)
Uncomfortable table and chairs.
Just avoid it!
There are far more superior establishments in the surrounding area.
