The Dove is a great pub. It has a fab range of real ales, ciders and lagers, and a selection of traditional bar snacks to help mop it all up.

If you want something more substantial then there is a good range of meals and snacks - and if one of Karen's home cooked chillis doesn't tickle your fancy, then you are welcome to order from one of the local takeaways.

The beer festival is always worth a visit too!

Brilliant no frills pub, the selection of real ales changes on a daily basis, there is also a tap room which features casked ales and ciders. The range of drinks on offer is the best in Ipswich, there is no music and no chavs. A great place to hang out with your mates and gave a chat over a few drinks. There is good bar food available, pizza, pies, and often a BBQ in the courtyard. The covered AstroTurfed outside area is great for evening use with space heaters. My number one choice in Ipswich.
P.S. Dog friendly too. X

The previous review - describing the Dove as a bit clannish - hits the nail on the head and prompted me to add a review.

I used to go to the Dove a fair bit - the beer is generally very good and there is a wide selection. Nonetheless, the attitude of the staff - one in particular - means that I don't go there anymore. A group of around eight of us went along for after work drinks at about 5.30ish and ordered in a few rounds, we were having several conservations and a good laugh when the barman came over and told us to be quiet because someone was trying to read his newspaper at the bar. I have been in the Dove when it has been difficult to hear the person next to me, so I'm not sure when the library rules were introduced. We were not being obnoxious or lairy in any way shape or form. In any case, the manner of the barman's approach made several of us in the party feel extremely unwelcome and I've not been back since. Work drinks now take place in the various other (more welcoming) watering holes around the Waterfront area.

Other Ipswich pubs have made us feel like 'regulars' after a handful of visits - before the evening in question, I'd been going to the Dove for a couple of years without any sense that I was a valued customer. It's generally quite busy in there in the evenings, so I guess - in the grand scheme of things - good service does not have to be part of their business plan.

I've only ever been in here twice and don't really plan on going back in, which is a shame as it is a cozy pub with a nice beer garden to the back and a very good selection of real ales. However, I found the crowd a bit pretentious, snobbish and clannish and the staff weren't all that pleasant. Having spoke to other folk who frequent there, some of them agree with my negative points and I was a bit reluctant to give this the rating I did.

Always a pleasure to pop in here for a quick pint or two. Used to be a great session pub but now not as good as it used to be.

Having heard many good things about The Dove I finally popped in for a pint with a few friends. The beer was great but the place smelt so bad we had to stand outside, it was a mix of old spicy food and sewage. Sorry, but never again...

It's a fab pub. Brew their own beer, great selection on tap too. Although not so sure which are vegan or not now! I used to love eating out there before I became vegan. Veggie chilli being my favourite. But for a vegetarian the menu is great. Simple pub food done well.

Thank you ! We are always looking at improving our service and a vegan beer is already being researched into by our brewer. I am pretty much vegan myself and consitantly playing with new recipes. Next time you are in ask for any other vegan dishes available as I usually have other options, and we looking forward to expanding our Vegan and Gluten Free menu choices.

This is a good pub, but really is having to/trying to cater for a very diverse clientele. Whilst proclaiming itself as a real ale venue it's a long way from the calibre of the Fat Cat or the Woolpack. Beer is brewed on site and it's good, but the stacking up of empty barrels amongst tatty garden furniture doesn't look convincing or authentic. The building is old and has potential but the architectural additions are not good (sloping pint ledges?!). I recommend a visit to this place, and a half pint of pork scratchings almost won me over, but I would love to see a complete make over to justify its place in Ipswich's potentially powerful drinking arsenal.

Fantastic pub, always a joy to go to no matter what time of day or night.
Great selection of real ales, malt whiskey, fruit wine, foreign beers, soft drinks and bar snacks something for everyone! Lovely and warm in the winter and large beer garden in the summer. Allows dogs on a lead.
