The views from the Castle are amazing and should not be missed on any trip to Potsdam. Enjoyed the castle but the district around is the best aspect. This is the place you must not miss. The 2 hours were perfect to see the entire area.

Charlottenhof 'Palace' is really a modest manor-house, in the southern part of the Sanssouci Park area. It was designed in the early nineteenth century by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, a celebrated Prussian architect. The Crown Prince of the time wanted to live in a bourgeois house rather than a full-blown palace, and this is the delightful result. The 'tent room' is very unusual.

You can only go round in a group with a guide, but there doesn't seem to be any need to book - just turn up and you'll be put on the next tour, which lasts about 30mins. The guide I went round with was excellent - informative and friendly, fluent English. You have to put huge slippers over your shoes to protect the wooden floors.

This is worth a visit if you have done as much of the war as you want. It's a nice change and has been thoughtfullly re-done after widespread destruction. The gardens are large and we didn't have the time to do it all, but a tour of the main castle is definitely worth the time.
Wait till you see the porcelain room!

This place is interesting to watch from the outside. Inside is just a small relatively interesting museum. From the outside you can take a walk and enjoy its architecture.

Another missable attraction. The architecture is extremely average. It is part of the palace grounds.

When I visited in May of 2017 and purchased a combined S+ ticket at the ticket office near the main palace, I was not informed Charlottenhof required both a check-in at the palace's ticket office in the lower level of the building, and a tour to view the palace itself.

When I arrived, the ticket office worker told me the next tour would be on the hour, in 20 minutes, and asked if I was willing to wait. When I said I was, she also asked me what language I spoke. When I told her "English," she called in to request an English speaking tour guide for my 2:00 tour. (Judging from some of the other reviews, German tours are the norm. I might have lucked out because it was a slow day with no German-speaking tourists there).

While I felt awkward having a private tour of the building (another English speaker arrived soon after I did, but didn't want to wait around 15 minutes for the tour), the tour guide was very nice and friendly. She spoke good English, though she seemed self-conscious and mentioned she hadn't done an English tour in a while.

The tour includes only the upper level, and there are relatively few rooms, but the smaller scale of Charlottenhof was a nice break from the larger Park Sanssouci buildings. The decor is still ornate and frequently fanciful, in line with the "summer palace" theme, but the smaller rooms gave the whole rooms a feeling of home-iness.

I loved it, but I'm sure I didn't have an ordinary tour experience.

Charlottenhof Palace and the Roman baths are located together on the outskirts of the Sanssouci Park, about a 15-20 minute tiring walk away from the cluster of the main palaces and gardens. On arrival at Charlottenhof Palace walk directly to the ticket office to get a timed entry ticket for a guided tour even if you have a Sanssouci Plus ticket. Visitors see this house with a guide and numbers of people on the tour are limited. I waited 20 minutes for the next tour. If there is a wait time for a tour, use the time to view the lovely rose garden and beds filled with colorful annuals.

The individual entrance fee is around 6 euros to view this furnished summer house rebuilt by Schinkel for Crown Prince Fredrick IV. Schinkel also designed some of the tables in the house and blue glass starred window in the entry hall. The rooms in the house are on the small side. The rooms reflect the neo-classical decor of the 1820's - minimum gilt trim with walls of pictures of engravings rather than paintings on the walls. Room decor varied from mint green to pink and white. The tent bedroom was done all in the same blue and white ticking. I saw the Crown Prince's and Princess's study, a bedroom, some sitting rooms, and the tent bedroom, about 7 rooms altogether. The floors were ordinary wood planking; some had wood parquet. Window dressing was minimal - gathered sheer short curtains. One sitting room had floral cross stitch upholstery for the cushions and back of the sofa and chairs with a small matching rug under a round card table. The interior of this building was a disappointment as it didn't have the WOW factor of the rooms like those in the main cluster of palaces at the entrance. It felt more like a family get away home in a rural setting.

Because most visitors in the group spoke German, the 30 minute tour was given in German and other guests received an information card in their language of preference. The card described each room's contents and pointed out the room's special features.

The Roman Baths which are closeby also were a disappointment. Only 1 area - the bath atrium was on view. Another room which had no distinguishing architectural features had a photo display. The gardens surrounding this building were appreciated and the exterior of the building was still attractive. For both buildings, I would avoid the entrance charge and just enjoy the setting for free if I didn't have a Sanssouci Plus ticket.

To leave the garden at these buildings, you'll find a bus stop for #606 about 3 minutes walk from Charlottenhof Palace on the city street which will take you to Luisenplatz if you want to get off in town or to Potsdam Bahnhof, its last stop.

A bit off the beaten track stands this one floor small palace or house that was very simply appointed and most of the furniture was authentic. The private tour was done in German and they gave you a sheet of paper in English so you can follow each room. I believe the Germans got a bit more history than the sheet we received. There were about 11 rooms in total and it was a bit boring for me. They give you a pair of slippers to put over your shoes so you don't dirty the floors. The outside is much prettier than the inside. No extra charge for the private tour but there are certain hours they do it so check out times. We did the 4:30 pm. Tour

We just caught the last guided tour of this beautiful little palace. Unfortunately it was an overcast day so we could not enjoy the tricks of the sunlight which the guide said would otherwise have been bathing the rooms. It was a very interesting visit, and the guide was great. We had to shuffle around in slippers provided at the entrance so as not to scratch the flooring. There is no electricity in the palace so make sure you go on a good sunny day! But we loved it even in the twilight!
It is worth buying a combined ticket for the palaces, and be sure to get an early start and plan well as there is simply loads to see all over this gorgeous city!

This place is not a Castle, but a villa. It was designed by Schinkel and almost all of the interior is original. There is a beautiful rosegarden. The fountain outside was under renovation. We had to get a ticket, despite we had a Premium-Tageskarte. Moreover we had to wait for a guided tour. However the tour was excellent and worth waiting for. It turned out to be our best experience at Sans Souci that day.
