Worth a visit if you are in town
mar 2019
This is a very small museum devoted to the art of making chocolate and sugar sculptures. It is located in the heart of the bastide town, Cordes-sur-Ciel.

Please note that this museum is not a destination museum but a fun activity if you are visiting the picturesque town in which it is located. It is also one of the few things that is open during the off-season, should you be visiting during the winter or early spring.

For the price of admission, you can go through the series of exhibits as part of a self-guided tour. Exhibits are located in two moderately sized rooms. If you watch tons of baking shows, this is the place for you. The sculptures are detailed and ornate, most of which have a card explaining how long it took to complete them. It makes you appreciate how painstaking some of the creations were (admittedly, I would not have the patience to attempt any of them).

You also receive a tasting when finished. There is a small seating area to enjoy them, which is separate from the gift shop. The gift shop has lots of different types of chocolate truffles and a signature biscuit which was created (but previously forgotten) in the area.

Staff speaks English and French, and tour information is provided in multiple languages.

Museum is ok, chocolate completely overpriced
cze 2018 • Znajomi
If you come to the museum to appreciate the amazing skills of building artistic patisserie in Chocolate, this is good, but if you are coming to buy chocolates, it is hugely overpriced for the quality you buy, good chocolate double price what you should pay

The art of the impossible
maj 2018 • Pary
Yves Thuries is widely regarded as the father of modern patisserie and I have long wanted to visit this museum which pays homage to the incredible skills of French patissiers and the amazing sculptures and decorations they produce in sugar and chocolate. The entry ticket is well worth the price especially as you are given delicious chocolates and biscuits to sample at the end of your tour. The shop is wonderful and provides the ideal opportunity to buy some serious indulgences and gifts for friends back home. As this museum is at the top of an extremely steep hill you don't even have to worry about consuming a few treats because you have already burned up at least a 100 calories on the way up. If you are around at lunch time there are plenty of really nice places to eat very close to the museum.

An original and enriching place to atop

The entry fees are slightly pricey - then again with Yves Thuries' reputation, I didn't except otherwise - approx 8€/person
The sugar museum is truly a wonder and it's amazing to think that all the artwork is potentially edible.
The chocolates, although slightly expensive, can be purchased at the gift shop and are definitely worth a try. They're probably the best you'll ever have!

Great ice cream

We haven't gone to the museum as we were already busy with all the things to do in the village.
We just took ice creams at the museum shop, and they very very nice.

Weird!
sie 2016 • Dla rodziny
This is a rather strange experience. The sugar sculptures were finely done but were largely Disneyesque or mimicking object in the real world (fruit, flowers, cars, etc.). What was disappointing about it was that the art of sugar decoration was not used as a basis for art innovation.
At the end, we sampled the croquante and then samples in the refinement process. You have to have sweet tooth for this and I don't!

Needs some new pieces
maj 2016 • Dla rodziny
Our son loved the museum, but it seems like things are getting a bit old. The artistry used to create the sugar pieces is incredible.

Slightly bizarre but fascinating creations with sugar
wrz 2015 • Pary
For €4 each the museum is quite interesting but it would be even better to see the techniques which went into creating these exhibits, some of which are exotic but very banal. I could not help but imagine a break-in where the burglar is found the next morning comatose beside the half eaten nude statue in chocolate... Satiated!! Clearly the founder is a great originator in the arts of sugar and chocolate and (as is typical in France) he is much garlanded with honours. The shop sells nice chocolate which is OK but we have had better in Belgium.

Amazing sculptures in sugar
cze 2015 • Pary
It was very interesting to see the various sculptures displayed rather formally in glass cases. Although the artistry is amazing the whole exhibition lacks life. We could see some chocolatiers working in the distance and it would have been so much more interesting had we been able to watch them at work.
