Focus on Breton Art and History
wrz 2019
This is a gem of a museum. Small, focused on Brittany, it takes you from prehistoric to recent history in grand fashion.

We visited the museum on a Saturday afternoon while in Quimper, it’s a must place to go. I had a vast collection of Brittany artifacts from 1bc to present day on many many subjects.

wrz 2019 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
This museum is a great introduction to a culture and a traditions of Brittany. You will discover furnitures, stain glass, faience, local costumes and paintings from the prehistoric time to this day. One of the most interesting exhibitions displays local colourful male/ female and children costumes. And modern gowns with Brittany ornaments/ twist. It is really worth visit this place.

A wonderful building full of riches
The museum is an excellent development of the former Bishop’s Palace with elegant stonework and modern glass and wood architecture. The standing exhibition covers a wide range from ancient Roman structures and artifacts to Breton costumes paintings and faïences. The additional attraction was the temporary exhibition of a group of artists known as the Last of the Impressionists. These artists of the Belle Epoque and inter war period between 1895 and 1939 were famous in their time but haven’t been exhibited together before. This museum showed the works Charles Cottet, André Dauchez, Bigouden, Lucien Simon and René Ménard. These artists were new to me and I enjoyed their work hugely especially René-Xavier Prinet’s La Plage à Cabourg 1910. It is a remarkably beautiful painting with wonderful atmosphere. It is so rich in detail it could be re-created as several separate paintings.

THERE IS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE AT THE BRETON MUSEUM
lip 2019 • Znajomi
What a delightful museum. Formally known as the Musee Departmental Breton and located next to the Cathedral St Corentin it holds a treasure trove of objects divers in nature from early artefacts, including early coins and axe heads from the region to saved objects such as Capitals (carved blocks of stone that sit atop columns) and furniture. Not to mention the wonderful display of ceramics and Breton clothing. This is a very well curated museum with enough English signs to keep you informed. The collection is not too large and all the well laid out displays were a pleasure to view. When we visited at the end of July there was also an exhibition of Post Impressionist paintings held in connection with the Musee des Beaux-Arts which was also showing paintings from the Post Impressionist era. Our ticket bought at the latter museum gave us entry into the other Breton Museum.
Every floor can be reached by stairs or elevators. Do not miss visiting this museum, there is something for everyone at the Breton Museum.

Outstanding representation of Breton life and culture from the earliest times
lis 2018 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
Every exhibit in this museum is carefully and thoughtfully presented with extensive explanations in French, Breton and English. The earliest prehistory connects its history with neighboring countries and shows how the culture evolves. Beautiful sculptures from many time periods, costumes from various towns worn during pardons and other festivals, and exquisite furniture from the region are displayed. This museum is a must see for visitors wanting to understand Breton history. A real treat!

The Jewel of Breton Culture & History
wrz 2018 • Pary
Housed next to the Cathedral St. Corentin in the historic Bishop's chateau (as I recall) the building is only the first delightful sight of your visit!

Every item on display in this museum has historic links to the people of Brittany, was worn by a Breton or was made by a Breton. Clothing, furniture, faience, art, it's all there and it's a feast for the eyes for anyone interested in the unique culture of Brittany!

Your visit could take 2 hours or last all day!

A quick glimpse of southern Brittany through the ages
wrz 2018 • Pary
This small museum has excellent displays about the early history of the Quimper region from pre-history to the 16th century on the ground floor and a marvelous collection of costumes from several regions of Brittany on the second floor.
