I was there with some friends for dinner, the restaurant was closed (December 23rd) but they were serving food at the bar. We ordered some drinks and keep chatting and thinking if we should eat in the bar (tables are not comfortable for dinner) or if we should look for another restaurant. As it was too cold outside we decided to stay. We ordered fish and chips, curry and steak. It took almost 1 hour for the food to come - and we were the only ones in the bar. After dinner, when the bill came, the friends that had the steaks complained (among us), as they were not cheap (£22) and were not good at all (not fresh and too overdone). While we were talking about it, out of nowhere, comes this lady saying that she could not stand there watching us saying bad things about the food as her staff was trying their best. She was really intimidating. She asked if the waiter didn't ask if everything was ok, we said he did (he was nice indeed), but after so much time waiting, we were really hungry, and with all the food in the table, how could we ask for them to change the steaks? And risk waiting another hour for it? No, we were ok. We told her to don't bother, we just wanted to pay and leave. But she kept lecturing us. We were really surprised and kind of scared. If our experience with the food was not good, after this awkward situation, for sure we will not come back there again. Who knows what this lady can do, we don't even know who she is, as she never introduce herself, but, poor staff... if she treats the guests like that, imagine how she treats her staff.

We booked this hotel for a family event. The room was newly refurbished and comfortable. The staff were extremely attentive and helpful. There is also easy access wifi for free, which is increasingly difficult to get in any hotel! The hotel is right opposite the train station and conveniently placed for the town centre, whilst retaining a quiet and peaceful air. Good breakfast in the morning. The entrance to the hotel looks a bit dated and doesn't reflect the higher quality rooms within. All in all I was satisfied with this for our two-night stay in Dumfries.

I was very disappointed on my visit to this hotel, three friends and myself went into the hotel ,three of us purchased an alcholic drink but the other friend only wanted a glass of tap water. This was refused ,I was not aware that this could be done. We were told that this was a bar and a drink had to be purchased. The hotel did not have any other visitors at this time and were made feel very unwelcome. The hotel is such lovely building it's such a shame about the experience we had.

Fantastic overnight stay , we were upgraded to executive suite as it was our 26th wedding anniversary on Wednesday 4th Dec when we won the competition, had dinner in courtyard bistro and were served by CAT and she was fantastic at her job , we had 2course from the festive menu , hubby had melon balls for starter and I had prawn cocktail and I must say it was the best one I’ve ever had ! We both had the roast turkey with all the trimmings , for two course it was only £19 each very good value or you could have three courses for only £22 , after our meal we went to the bar for a drink where we were served by DAVID the barman , very well entertained by his humour (what a bar needs ) , we then had a good blether with the DJ (dumfries DJ hire) very friendly guy who was playing upstairs at the Christmas party that was on !
Had a fantastic sleep in a very comfortable massive bed , went down for breakfast which was served in the courtyard bistro restaurant and we were again served by CAT , breakfast was absolutely amazing, plenty of choice etc !
We would certainly recommend staying at The Station Hotel and although we just stay 23miles up the road we shall certainly be back also a wee mention to Becky x

Visited this hotel las night and could not get a hot shower this morning. After 10 minutes running the shower on the hottest setting it was not even like warm. Reported this to reception who just said sorry. There was not even the offer of another room to take a shower and the impression is that because no one else had complained then it must have just been me! The hotel is old and tired and I won't be back.

Visit for the car show on the Sunday but the weather was very bad.
Room 17 in the hotel was facing onto the railway station.
Plus points:Good size room ,quite modern, plenty of power outlets and WiFi works well, bathroom modern and shower had reasonable pressure.
Cons:TV Channels poor due to lack of signal from aerial, beds very soft for my liking, noise from lounge bar below very intrusive.
Courtyard Bistro:Head waiter very attentive and well mannered, food quality very good, some items a little on the pricey side.

We just had the one night at the Station Hotel and it was a good choice. While it is just across the street from the railway station there was no noise during the night.
The hotel is maybe 6 or 7 minutes walk from the town centre and there is plenty of street parking. Our room was very comfortable with tea and coffee, a good bathroom and TV and pretty spacious. We did not have breakfast in the hotel as we wanted to leave really early. We did have a couple of drinks in the bar and the lady who covered both reception and the bar did a great job. She was welcoming, friendly and helped us out with our various queries. I didn't get her name but she was an ex teacher.

I came to Dumfries to go a bit off the beaten track. The staff were so welcoming. I arrived at some ungodly hour - maybe around 1:00 AM. That didn't stop the lovely woman at the counter from acquainting me with the city and telling me everything I needed to know. Very passionate. The rooms were also very clean, comfy, and well kept.

Two nights here on way to Western Isles. Very friendly staff throughout - reception efficient and answered various questions about places to visit. This is a large, old established hotel and the size of the staircase and corridors reflect its history. However, we booked two of the largest double rooms on the second floor which were spotlessly clean with modern interiors and excellent en suite facilities including walk in showers. Mattresses are firm and comfortable. Did not find Dumfries over endowed with places to eat so had dinner in hotel both nights and the choice was wide, service was prompt and friendly and food of a very good standard. Breakfast is buffet, with fully cooked Scottish available, and the option of porridge and/or kippers - both were tested and were brilliant. The hotel is very close to the station (parking is, effectively, on the opposite side of the road to the station forecourt) but there is no discernible noise from the trains.
