half term historical fun
paź 2020
great place to visit - especially with long children. Our kids loved seeing the mosaics and despite the challenges of Covid restrictions had great fun making roman helmets, knotting celtic bracelets with a cardboard loom and finding all the pumpkins. thanks very much for a very enjoyable visit.

Interesting visit
paź 2020
An interesting museum explaining the site and the context and a good display of mosaics found on site. The overall impression is how vast the complex would have been when complete. Good reinterpretation of a Roman villa garden. Great signboards throughout.

Disappointing and not as advertised
wrz 2020
We went for our second visit to the Roman Palace today as they had advertised that today would be 'Meet the Romans' Day. We travelled from near Epsom to Chichester on the basis that the advert said there would be re-enactors from the Britannia and Horrible Histories series, that there would be demonstrations and displays and that they would be 'bringing the palace back to life'. When we gave our details to the lady outside for track and trace we mentioned the Horrible Histories reenactments and she seemed a little hesitant, so I mentioned again to the lady at the till who was also a little hesitant. Their hesitancy was hardly surprising when we got into the palace garden to find only three stalls. Whilst each stall was interesting and the three Roman soldiers were interesting to talk to, there was no sign of any re-enactments and certainly no one obviously from Horrible Histories to talk to?! One lady dressed in costume was talking to another visitor about her costume - and revealed it was a mix and match of various items a Roman would have worn, not necessarily at the same time, nor during the same era - effectively completely inaccurate. I completely understand that we're living in unusual times but it was a bit of a waste of time and certainly a waste of money to travel such a long distance for an event that was clearly not happening as advertised. We would not have visited the palace today, so soon after our initial visit, if we were not drawn to the fact the advert said members of Horrible Histories would be there - something my 10 year old son had specifically wanted to engage with. Poor show to the organisers who would simply have gained more respect if they'd just been honest about the fact that the event wasn't happening as they'd advertised it. On leaving we went for a look around the shop but several shelves were empty and the jewellery in the glass cabinets was becoming tarnished and dusty. My son wanted to buy a necklace in a little plastic container but it was chipped and damaged in it's plastic box. All round a poor visit and a waste of time and money on this occasion.

If you say you’re closing at 4pm, close at 4pm
wrz 2020 • Pary
Unfortunately we arrived about 5 minutes after the last entry time due to traffic - this was entirely on us. We spoke to a lady at the entrance and asked if she felt it was still worth us visiting, and she said she thought so, although she was obviously biased!

She led us through, charged us the full entry price and recommended that we start with the mosaics and leave the museum until last so we could ensure we had time to see the most interesting parts. We did so, and the mosaics were fascinating.

We worked our way round at a slightly more hurried pace than usual, looking forward to finishing with the museum, but on arriving there with 25 minutes to go until closing we discovered the lights switched off and the museum closed up.

The ladies working in the gift shop gave a half-hearted ‘oh, well sometimes they do close early’ and ‘well, that’s the hazard when you arrive late’. I wanted to point out that there was a good half hour left until the advertised closing time and we’d paid full price, but we felt it would be a frustrating conversation so after a slightly awkward drift around the gift shop left having spent a total of 35 minutes at the attraction after paying full price.

We completely understand we were a few minutes late but given that we were advised to still come in, and to leave the museum until last we put our trust in the staff and lost out as a result. We would like to return to see the museum but given the hefty entrance price it’s unlikely we will.

Roman Britain brought to life

What a pleasure to visit this attraction during the Covid outbreak. No advance booking required, which was a bonus. Lovely setting, free car park, track and trace information taken on arrival and all expected precautions taken. The museum itself was spacious and informative without being too learned. In the car park area there is a cafe and outside seating on picnic tables, the cafe was open serving take away food only. The toilets were open, one at a time, and the staff regularly checked and sanitised not only inside the museum but also the toilets. After our visit we enjoyed our packed lunch in the grassy area on one of the picnic tables. Excellent, calm, safe and enjoyable visit.

Great site; prepare to queue
sie 2020
Incredible mosaics, and fantastic to see the gardens recreated - really interesting to learn about that. Small museum attached with a few small finds from the site, and some quite old information signs in the museum. Hopefully additional funding at some point in future will mean the signage and interpretation might be modernised.

Great that the museum has been able to open in the current circumstances, and it felt perfectly safe to me. Staff (or maybe volunteers?) were all very friendly and upbeat. We queued for 30 minutes to pay however, which was frustrating - timed tickets might have helped, or the ability to pre-book.

Ruins all other Roman villas for you... in a good way
sie 2020
A good morning out at Fishbourne Roman Palace. After quite a long queue to manage COVID-19 measures, we spent an interesting couple of hours looking around the exhibition and enjoying the impressive collection of mosaics, lots of which are pretty much whole. There was a good one way system in place and the staff were helpful and friendly when explaining what to do and where to go. Lovely gardens too!

Would recommend visiting here.

Hugely interesting but overcrowded

A jewel in the sense of the Roman history this museum offers. It is truly fascinating.
We were so excited to see that it was open again after the Covid 19 closure and reassured to see a sign at the reception saying entry was limited to 20 at a time to allow for social distancing. Unfortunately, this was not enforced and it was busy. Everyone wore masks but social distancing was difficult and thus we felt uncomfortable.

Overpriced
sie 2020
Somewhat disappointing. Apart from a very impressive mosaic of a character riding a dolphin the rest of the mosaics are not much to look at, all being in very poor condition. Before you get the the mosaics there's a few small rooms with information about the area. There's also an outside garden which is quite pleasant in the summer. Parking is free but the entry cost of 28 pounds for a family was quite steep for what you get in my opinion.
