Totally Unassuming
mar 2020
What a down to earth character Lord Nuffield must have been - the house is in no way grand and, unfortunately, it does look in need of rather a lot of TLC (I'm sure the many flat roofs don't help.) The interiors are comfortable and homely rather than grand and you could almost be walking into your grandparents house. The only nod to grandeur is the Billiards Room which is in a wing on its own and the tool cupboard in his Lordship's bedroom gives a fascinating insight to the restless nature of the man. Really interesting

Delightful house with a good insight into its talented owner
mar 2020
A story of a man from a humble background, who had an enquiring mind in solving problems.responsible for many machines climaxing with the Morris Car works in Oxford. As well as being very successful he donated a lot of money to the university on condition they had a department for Anesthesia in which he had a particular interest.Lots to see in the house,a variety of old clocks and chinese pottery stand out as do the delft pottery tiles.

Charming house
mar 2020
Nuffield House was lovely! Its a smaller national trust house with a recent history. It was owned by William Morris, the car manafacturer, and it was very interesting to hear about his philanthropic efforts. Its a smaller house but the volunteers are lovely, the talk was brilliant and the man who welcomed us in was great. The tea room is a bit lacking both food wise and space wise - the brownies were really dry - but young lady serving was lovely. The gardens are small but pleasant, loved the rock garden!

Fascinating house but NT catering is slipping
mar 2020
Let's start with the house and garden - beautiful and full of interesting history of Lord Nuffield, who founded the Morris car company and went on to sell vast quantities of cars and give billions to charity. The room guides were knowledgeable and helpful, and a couple of them had grown up in the nearby village and known Lord and Lady Nuffield from their experience (for example) of regular delivery of groceries).

Well worth the visit.

However ... NT catering seems to have gone downhill. In recent visits to Petworth House, the Vyne and now Nuffield Place I have noticed the quality of cakes has gone downhill. Where is the coffee cake? Why are the brownies so dry? Why is the tiffin so poor? Why are the flapjacks dry and stale? The young lady serving us was pleasant and efficient : it wasn't her fault.

So, Sadly, my top tip is: bring your own picnic to this lovely house.

A very nice story
lut 2020
We have been to Nuffield place 3 times and the story of lord Nuffield and his house is lovely. The grounds and the house are super. Not very large but the house tells the story of their lives, his success and how generous they were to charity.
A national trust property that is a must to visit if you are in that area.

Lovely Garden & Beautiful Woodland
maj 2019 • Dla rodziny
This is a lovely place to visit if you have a few hours to spare. The gardens are beautifully cared for & the woodland area surrounding the perimeter is a lovely walk.

A lovely time to visit is during the late spring/ early summer when the bluebells are out in abundance in the woodland and the wisteria is blooming around the house.

Loved the house and learning about William Morris and his story
paź 2019
We had a talk about William Morris which was very interesting as knew nothing of him and his connection to the Nuffield and why. Then looked around the house which was in a time warp era, which I loved. Staff friendly and happy to impart what they knew about the house and collection. Highly recommend

Interesting place, great stories about the owners
paź 2019 • Wyjazd w pojedynkę
I started off my visit with a talk in the garage about the owners, Lord and Lady Nuffield, which was really interesting and made the trip to the house make a lot more sense! Considering they were some of the richest people in the world in their timechair home is very unassuming and has been largely preserved as it was when they lived there.
The staff are lovely and so knowledgeable, and there are plenty of interesting little bits of information and items as you go around.
On the way out you can see an old iron lung - Lord Nuffield made them in his car manufacturing plant, and you can see that the handles are all car door handles!

Very interesting property
wrz 2019
We visited this property with very little knowledge about William Morris. We found the whole story of his life and work very interesting and were humbled by his dedication to good causes and the amount of money he gave away to make them a reality.
The NT staff were great and the house is well presented.
The tearoom is very small but there is plenty of seating outside in the garden if the weather is good, All in all a very worthwhile visit.
