Beautiful secluded beach

Don’t walk from Friars Bay! We did that on our first visit and it was grueling! On our second visit, we took a shorter way. When you are driving from Grand Case, take a right just after the basketball courts. After about a block you will see a big white gate. Park next to it and walk around the gate. There is a paved trail that is much easier to walk and it is about 10 minutes shorter than the Friars Bay walk. Daniel has had a hut serving ice cold beer for several years on the beach! We spent the entire time nude and chatted with other people that were nude as well. If you prefer to be textile, that is certainly acceptable so don’t feel like you have to be textile free. The sand was great and there was no seaweed. We brought our own tent and mats to relax on with our packed lunch and beer. Daniel was there when I needed more beverages! He didn’t even mind when you walked up to grab a beverage textile free. Favorite beach of the trip!

Disappointing
mar 2021 • Pary
You go to Friar’s beach and park. Go onto the beach and turn right. Follow a trail for about 15 minutes. The trail is very rocky/pebbly so rubber soles is a must. When we finally arrived on Happy Bay, the water was filled with seaweed and very rough. It was also excessively windy, so we were eating sand. The views, however, along the trail were stunning. Perhaps if the conditions were different, it would have been more enjoyable. FYI, Happy Bay is clothing optional. If you don’t intend to swim/sun nude, I’d stay at Friar’s beach.

Secluded Clothing-Optional Beach on St. Martin
lut 2020
This is a small, isolated, clothing-optional beach on the leeward side of St. Martin. The simplest way to find it is to follow GPS directions to Friar’s Bay and then walk 10-15 minutes to Happy Bay.

When arriving at Friar’s Bay, drive past the first parking area, go behind the first restaurant, and park in the dirt parking area in front of you. Then walk along the beach in front of the second restaurant as far as you can go, look for a 12-foot by 18-foot concrete pad set back from the shore, and pick up the trail that begins there.

Footwear is required, as the trail is rocky. The path goes up (and then down) a sizable hill. The views of Friar’s Bay and the island of Anguilla are spectacular.

The beach at Happy Bay is about 500 yards wide, but there were never more than about 50 people on it at any given time. Approximately half of the people were nude and half in regular swimsuits. Most of the nudes were at one end of the beach or the other. However, we set up more or less in the middle. A few people brought umbrellas and chairs, but most laid towels on the sand. For those without umbrellas who wanted shade, there are trees and large shrubs at the back of the beach that provide some relief. There’s not much of a breeze, so it can feel quite hot in the sun.

One slight drawback was construction taking place just behind the beach. Apparently, there is some sort of resort back there, and amenities were being built near the beach. Exactly what they were was difficult to tell. However, like everything on St. Martin, the pace of the construction activity was not exactly break-neck, so the noise was intermittent and only mildly intrusive (the buzzing of a circular saw, the pounding of nails).

We only spent parts of two days there, but it appears that the people staying at the resort were the ones who wore swimsuits, as this was their local beach. The people like us who hiked from Friar’s Bay were the ones who went nude.

The water was crystal clear and calm – and of course warm. A few boats anchored just offshore. One was a nude cruise whose crew and patrons came ashore for lunch and sunbathing.

There is a snack shack with cold beer and water along with smoked ribs – all available at surprisingly low prices, given the remoteness of the place.

On our first visit, only a few people were there initially – at the far end of the beach. We took advantage of the situation to engage in some adult fun. Such activity was also possible when more people were there by going behind some large boulders at the far left end of the beach. We did that too.

Our second visit took place only after we failed to get to the (nude) beaches at Baie Rouge and Long Bay. Over land both are reachable only via gated communities. We couldn’t tell if anyone was in the guard house at either place. My husband wanted to stop and see, as he no doubt would have found a way to talk ourselves in. But I figured, why bother. Happy Bay Beach was perfectly fine – secluded, picturesque, and quiet enough.

Hidden beach
mar 2019
Nature beach without restaurants or ammenities but clean and quiet. The main entry is using a private road for which you have to pay, but there is a small hidden path from Friar´s bay beach.

Can’t believe I haven’t been before
sty 2020 • Pary
I’ve been to this island 5-10 times and have never made the walk to Happy Bay. We’ve always just spent the day at Friars. This time we parked at Friars, walked to the far end of the beach and hiked 15 minutes to Happy Bay. It was fantastic.

The walk was great. It was easy, but rocky, with lovely views and soooo many iguanas resting in the trees. The beach itself was beautiful. It was quiet, with golden sand and the bluest water. It’s a big beach and there were only about 5 other people when we arrived and about 20 by the time we left. There’s a guy who brings a bunch of beers and sets up shop in the abandoned restaurant to sell them.

We’ll 100% return to this beach before we leave the island next week. Don’t miss it.

Great Quiet Beach...plus directions
gru 2019 • Dla rodziny
This beach can be difficult to find as google will take you close but then you will get lost. Follow google until you see the gate ( in my pictures). Park where you can and then walk around gate and walk up road until you reach the abandoned resort. Then follow the dirt road until you hit the beach. The walk is easy and can be done in flip flops. Only took us 10 min. Beach is quiet and secluded. Family friendly as most nudists go to the end of the beach where it is more secluded. There was a guy selling beer the day we were there but I would pack water and snacks as no amenities. Great afternoon with the family on a great beach.

Easy going

Know you are heading to an isolated beach. Clothing optional and many fully naked when we were there. 15 minute walk from parking at Friars Beach. No food service.
Lovely sand and pleasant light waves.

Loved our visit to happy bay beach. 10-15 minute walks. Lots of iguanas on walk. Great beach. Private. Not much or any shade. One warning. And French older couple was in water nude. They came back to stolen stuff. Including car keys, phone and CLOTHES!! Oh my.

A nice beach
gru 2019 • Pary
After a 10 minute walk from Friars Bay you arrive at Happy Bay. A nice quiet beach. Water is enjoyable with soft sand to sink your toes into.
Enjoyed the crazy- head statue.
