A step back in time
lis 2018 • Dla rodziny
We visited Spakenburg via the ferry from Center Parcs De Eemhof. The town itself was lovely, but the museum was not open when we arrived. It was only when we were walking back to the ferry after having lunch in the town did we see that it was open. We were in two minds whether to visit, as we felt ready to go back to the apartment, and from the outside it looked small, but were swayed when we saw the ladies working in the museum in their traditional dress, and so went in. Boy, are we glad we did! There is a lot more to this museum than what you expect from the outside! Its is spread out over a few buildings, but is in a very compact area. They provide with an English folder which translates most of the dutch on the walls, but not all of it. The museum takes you on a journey through the towns development, and how the town had to adapt when its fishing industry waned. It tells you about how school was for the children of the town before the industrial revolution, how the dams were created and reclaimed land from the sea, and how this resulted in the need for the town to diversify. It told of the flooding that occurred, and showed typical houses from that time period. Really worth a visit!

Definitely worth a visit

I visited this museum just because of curiosity. Apparently it is a quite small but very nice place to visit.

The museum presents the local history of Spakenburg and its neighbor Bunschoten. It shows the life around 100 years ago when people there were mainly had their income from the sea. Some important events that changed the nature of the social life there are also shown.

The museum itself contains several small old buildings, probably old houses of which function is alternated into a museum. For me, it is a plus point since it makes this small museum a kind of semi-open air museum. As I really enjoyed my visit, I am sure it is enjoyable for most of travelers. It is wort a 1-2 hours visit.

History of Spakenburg presented in a very good way
lut 2016
The museum gives attention to the historic clothing, but also has space for 'newer" history like the local football clubs. Also old interiors of fishermans housing and a little -in house- street. on the first floor a presentation of the churches, all in all much to see if you are interested in the history of Spakenburg.
