Historical pipe organ; 5 times reborn from ashes; Spanish artist's copy
maj 2018 • Pary
We visited on Saturday, exactly on 12:00 when bells where ringing. Church was built in a mixed style - roman and gothic. Beautifully restored! The central altarpiece is a copy of the Spanish artist Bartolomé Esteban Murillo painting "Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary".
A unique pipe organ soon will be back from restoration works (was made by St. Petersburg masters, also representing style of historical Latvian masters of 19 and 20th centuries).
Nearby there is a statue of a Queen of Mara's land - it was the first image that was installed on the occasion of the establishment of Latgale and independent Latvia.
Church is open every day for visitors from 9am to 5pm. We found history in the internet, but onlu in Latvian. You may ask for the guided tour in advance in the local information centre (Ludzas tūrisma informācijas centrs). There is a train and a bus from Riga to Ludza if you are travelling without a car.

Religion and History

Religion and history intertwine all the time in our lives. Many places are forcing to stop and think about the history and future. Beautiful place.
