Buying seafood
gru 2020 • Pary
Went to old Mazatlan to buy seafood and went to a stand at the far back corner of the marcado. The mahi mahi and prawns were ok but the “scallops” were absolutely atrocious! When we got back to our room and opened them to prepare them they were hard and not opaque, almost like they’d been overcooked but they were supposed to be raw scallops. Not satisfied at all. Be very careful when buying seafood and make sure to watch the whole time it is bagged/packaged.

The Mexican in me always tells me to take my time & not be in a hurry..

Or I was just tired from all the walking I have been doing on this trip to my Motherland..I did not take a tour because since I left teaching after so many years..I do not really want to be on a schedule any more plus they seemed expensive..and started early..Anyway..I was impressed how the locals are making efforts to repair & restore alot of this area..sure a lot of streets are closed but I wasn't driving..This area looks like the typical scene from an old Mexican town with the colorful shops & houses..The locals here were friendly & willing to help me get to my destination like the Malecon..and Infante Museum;;really disappointed so many places were closed like a book store, some restaurants

The old town behind the high-rise hotels along the beach is absolutely charming. The early morning walk especially was great fun.

Disappointing Section of Town
gru 2019
We took a walking tour of Old Mazatlan with a local guide. We were quite disappointed with the area and its state of repair. Maybe it was glamorous many years ago, but it looked pretty bleak during our visit.

Old is right.

Old, filthy and unfriendly and that's being nice. Don't bother. Go anywhere in Mexico but here. The only good thing about Mazetlan is the road out.

Lovely historic area, with stunning architecture

Loved the historic center, there are really good restaurants, lovely buildings and streets to wander. Not as much shopping as I had expected, but some unique shops.

No where better for a street meander in Mazatlán
lut 2020 • Pary
Unless you’re “trapped” in an all-inclusive hotel or some other gringo gulch, Centro Historico is probably the main draw for tourists in this city. It’s Mazatlán’s version of Old Town in Puerto Vallarta, and I probably like it more because of the range of things to see and do nearby (e.g. Lighthouse Hill). With a fresh cuppa joe and “Search&Rescue” energy bar from Loony Beans in hand, a leisurely stroll up Constitución from Olas Altas will lead you past plazuelas and colourful colonial homes. Tributaries feeding off this main corridor quickly become an enchanting labyrinth with many places to eat and drink. If you’re a power walker, you’ll quickly emerge from the tranquil reverie of this intimate back eddy of Old Mazatlán to converge with an entirely different current: The maelstrom of Mexican life on the go!

Keep Your Eyes Peeled for a Map
sty 2020
There is a lot to see in the historic center: cathedral, market, galleries, museums, plazas, except it is hard to find a map. We do enjoy walking around but we also like to know how to get to specific places. We could not find a tourist information centre. Finally we happened to see a person in a blue uniform walking around and he is your tourist information person. AND HE ACTUALLY HAD A GOOD MAP. They also will answer any of your questions. It's just that they are not located in one place. So keep your eyes peeled.

Took a tour. Great way to see Old Mazatlan
lut 2020
We spent all day browsing around the city. Lots of Canadians live in the old part of Mazatlan. 60% or more expats are canadian with 20% or so American Expats. Cool experience.
