Big statue of the Black Emperor
lis 2019
This is the third main attraction we came across built on the shore of lotus lake, jutting out to it. The statue of Xuantian or sometimes referred to as the black emperor is gigantic and very imposing and look scary to some people. He is another warrior immortalised as a god in Chinese folklore and now worshipped as a deity in the Taoist tradition. The path leading to this statue is flanked on both sides by many small statues.

Great attraction

Another great find on lotus lake. Wear lots of bug repellent as they’re everywhere here! Wasn’t busy when we visited so got a good look around.

I enjoyed visiting this beautiful 22meter statue of The Supreme Emperor of the Dark Heaven. The walkway to the statue is lined with other little stone statues. Just in front of the entrance there is a small carp pond on the left and some traditional coin throwing games. You can visit the inside of the statue too.

One of the three attractions in the Lotus Pond area
wrz 2018 • Pary
In the Lotus pond area, there are three main attractions which are sitting right in the lake. They are Dragon Tiger Tower, Spring & Autumn Pavilion and Beiji Xuantian Shangdi. The three attractions are within walking distance to each other. When you arrived at the lotus pong area the third attraction will be Beiji Xuantian Shangdi. At the entrance of the temple you can see old folks sitting around singing Karaoke. Walk straight in there will be a long path leading you to the big statue of Shangdi. The temple itself is located below the statue.

Another temoke

This was part of the itinerary of our guided tour round Taiwan. We visited many temples along the way and maybe that's why we don't find it very interesting here. Maybe just to take some nice pictures.

A Fantastic Temple!
cze 2017 • Znajomi
This is probably my fifth time visiting - A magnificent temple, in the shape of the God.... sitting on Wu Dang mountain. We went inside, where we were permitted to take photos. A small donation will get you a souvenir amulet/pendant of the god. The temple attendant showed us how to have it blessed. Very beautiful inside; with some nice side exhibits. This is a MUST SEE for Kaohsiung. There are MANY temples within easy walking distance of this one; but THIS one has probably the best photo opportunities inside and out!

On Lotus Pond - walked out to this one and enjoyed the scenery up and down the pier looking back to the shore. Tiny peninsula to the right as you approach the monument with ducks, chickens, geese, swans. Outside is impressive but on the inside there's weirdness going on. Nice decorations, paintings, etc. but it looks like it's also used to sell stuff as there were boxes everywhere and displays with stuff to buy, but no one around. We went upstairs to see what there was to offer, but encountered a woman in some kind of trance rolling around on the floor chanting. Turned quickly and back down the stairs! Just another couple of young women from Germany there the same time we were.

You should definitively visit Lotus lake when you are in Kaohsiung. This is one of the many temples, statues at the lake.
Very photo genetic, especially when the sun is going down.
Nice view on the town.

Larger than life

Also located on Lotus Lake, and within walking distance around the pond, this is another worth seeing. Love the larger than life monument.

Spectacular temple at Lotus Pond
lip 2014 • Znajomi
While visiting the Lotus Pond to see the temples at the shores, this one cannot be missed.

It's a spectacular structure, well maintained and extremely colourful. Loved the views from nearly every side of the Lotus Pond. The entrance and bridge towards the statue are fantastic.

We took the Public City Bike from the Zuoying High Speed Rail station and I would recommend this immediately! Cheap, easy and a great way to go around and explore the area. You can leave the bike at a different spot (there are quite a few in the area).
