This is the best way to commute from the airport to the Taipei Main Station. It is only 35 minutes and about US$5. The train is clean and no traffic worries.

We found the metro in Taipei so easy to use, with ticket machines that had an English option and a map that was very clear to manoeuvre. From the airport it cost us $160 (Approximately ÂŁ4) each way. The ticket machines only like smaller notes, however there were also desks if you wanted to pay with card or larger notes. The journey from the airport to Taipei main station takes around 35 minutes, however make sure you take the express train or the journey could take just over an hour.

The relatively new MRT is definitely an upgrade compared to the old bus service. Access to/from Taipei Main Station is about 50min-1hr and brings you from the airport (T1 and T2) directly into town, without the need to commute. In-town check-in is available and closes 3 hours before departure. Free Wi-fi is available in 30min blocks. Only regret is that it is not a little bit faster (it makes several stops) hence the 4/5 rather than 5/5...

Clean, fast and easy ride to the city. There are two types of rides to city, one is normal commuter one stops at all station and other one is express. Get the express ride to city with just 2 stops. It took nearly 35 mins with express and 1 hour with commuter one.

It took another one hour from Taoyuan Int’l Airport to Taipei train station by Airport Express MRT, very easy and comfortable and inexpensive. Good experience!

The MRT service from the airport is one of the easiest ways of getting into the city centre. There are 2 services the express which only stops at 3 stations and the slower commuter train. The slower train isn't actually much slower.

Is not easy to find your way compared to other medium sized airports around the world.
I m usually very good with directions, but spent 30 mins trying to find the way to get to the city by train which should be the most popular option, but the signs at the airport are misleading and confusing.

There are 2 options - the express service vs the commuter service. The same trains serve both functions, so just figure out which station you want to get off at. The commuter service makes a few more stops along the way and adds perhaps 10 minutes to the trip that ends at Taipei Main Station. The express service makes 3 or 4 stops before reaching the Main Station.

Hi guys, I have a 14-hour layover at Taipei from 9:30pm Friday to 12:30pm Saturday. Do I have enough time to visit a night market? Should I take the express train or taxi? I plan to rent a hostel near the Main Station to stay overnight.
For the next morning, where should I visit? Can you recommend me any restaurant or local food I should try?
Thank you for your suggestions.

Some night markets near main station. Airport MRT leaves you at Main Station. Saturday morning you also can check in at Main Station airport MRT, depending on airline you will continue your flight with. Taxi from airport to Main Station takes minimum 40 minutes and costs 1200 Taiwan Dollars.

I'm sorry I don't know about transit passengers, I suggest you contact your airline directly. . My sources in Taiwan have told me that Taiwan will be closed to all non-citizens. Common sense would suggest that this would not apply to transit passengers, but you never know.

Check with your airline but you shouldn't need to go through immigration unless you're actually exiting the airport

30 years ago, China Airlines would take your passport and put you up in a hotel for the night, as part of your fare. Those days are long gone. There are a couple of hotels within two or three miles, but do you really want to schlepp through customs, shuttle to a hotel and be back at 0400 am for your flight? Lounge privileges generally do not come with premium economy. I think you are going to have to suck it up. Load a couple of movies on you laptop, and check for better connections next time. Sometimes splitting up your flight (stay two or three days in Taiwan) is not that much more.

I'm in transit and have 1 and a half hours between flights. Is that enough time to navigate the airport?

I am in transit for a few hours. Are there showers for economy class passengers? Is there a lounge and how much is fee please? Maybe a massage?

There are free showers in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of the airport. Although they are free and available 24 hrs, there's a time limit.
Massage services are offered from visually impaired people at certain hours of the day. Check the airport website for details.
Lounges exist. There's a free no-frills lounge in the fourth floor of Terminal 1 that may be tricky for some to find. Fee-based lounges cost at least US$30.
