Absolutely fascinating

This is one of the more interesting examples of Parramatta's history; we all know the textbook background but this is a real example of what used to be here the modern high rise. A good variety of archaeological remains from the early settlement of Parramatta. Fascinating to see the remnants of a convict hut and a colonial inn.

Very worth a visit.

Almost hidden away under the V Tower and the V-Crown Hotel is an open archeological site of the foundations of a convict hut and it is superbly displayed and explained. The site can be looked down on from the street level and there is a door into the Philip Ruddock Heritage Centre that leads to a lift and stairs down to the site level. There are excellent descriptive boards and glass fronted cases with artefacts found during the dig. All credit to the city ands developers for saving and displaying the site. It is a fascinating insight into early colonial and Parramatta life.

A must see convict hut site.

Building of the V apartments by Crown Group in 2005 uncovered a series of archaeological remains from the early settlement of Parramatta. Well preserved remnants of convict hut footings, a colonial period cottage with well, and the remains of the Weatsheaf Hotel.
Take the stairs down through the door next The Shed cafe to see display objects etc.
A very fine display.
Perhaps finish your visit 26 floors higher at the amazing bar in the building?
