Essential site, if you ever want to properly understand Roman culture and greater society. Form the house of the Important man, who was owned by the empire and very important to the ancient town, to the Specially constructed walls, I was overwhelmed. All I could bring myself to do was cry in that moment. The recent “rasterations” have greatly modernised the site for 21st century tourism and allow future generations to visit this soon to be world heritage site. My cohort and I were amazed by the stone walls, which were in remarkable condition. To our astonishment NO GLUE WAS USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION! You couldn’t even fit a piece of paper between the interlocking blocks!

The excellence of this site was only enhanced by our tour guide Anita and I believe that this is essential if you are to fully understand the site. She was a wellspring of knowledge and I look forward to my second visit, as I couldn’t take in everything in one day.

Wow. That's all I can say. The walls of the ruins at this site were clearly skillfully crafted, even without glue! In fact, they were cut so well that you cannot put a paper in between the stones! I am in awe at the excellent craftsmanship exhibted at this auspicious place.

Why this is not ranked as the #1 thing to do Benkovac i will never understand. In fact i have dedicated myself to Annita and the ruins of Asseria and have sworn to make this the highest rated thing on this forsaken website.

I’m not an archaeology expert, I only visited this site as a curiosity. This is an amazing place, a great building from Roman times, the walls and their size are impressive. A little distant from the main routes, but it is worth it.

Ancient Roman city - ruins - Amazing!
maj 2012 • Znajomi
This is an ancient Roman city that was first Illyrian (Liburnian) settlement and then grew into major city in Illyrian and Roman Dalmatia.
It has it's peak in 2nd century AD and then it was finally abandoned in the 6th century due to fall of the Roman empire and constant plundering of all sorts of barbarians.

On that site, no city grew after that. So the most amazing thing about this place is that it is really ghost town (of course, it is live archeological site and it is being constantly researched since 1998.)

If you are lover of ancient Rome, this is a must site to visit. Great monolithic structures are still visible today, built by Liburnians (Illyrians) that were there before Romans.

MUST SEE for Roman empire lovers!
