Greetings to Hannah, Joe and everyone at Vertical Blue. We did about 4 dives with Vertical Blue at Blue Lagoon Resort. All of them were enjoyable and we felt safe on each dive as there was a healthy respect for air reserves and generally conservative dives without taking away from being able to make the most of the dive. Bearing in mind that the Suva decompression chamber was not in service at the time. Being able to do your safely stops above a coral head was a bonus on some of our dives. If you get the chance, dive ‘The Chapel’ aside from the good chance of seeing multiple sharks, it is an all round great dive! My favorite. But there are multiple wall dives and plenty of sites to choose from, all with their unique sea life to see and usually close to the resort. Vinaka!

Located within Blue Lagoon Beach Resort, this shop offers great dive trips to several locations in easy reach of the resort. Between each dive the boat goes back to the resort. Prices are very reasonable and we enjoyed diving with them very much, especially since we had to request a somewhat adapted dive schedule due to a previous deco accident of my girlfriend.

My family and I spent 10 amazing days in this slice of paradise, staying at the Blue Lagoon Resort. During our stay we completed our Open Water diver certifications
with Vetical Blue Dive, under the expert guidance of instructor Hannah Quigley. Hannah is extremely good at her job, always clear and calm with her instructions we were made to feel safe and under control at all times. The ocean dives were amazing with plenty of sea life and beautiful corals.
All of the staff at Vertical Blue Dive and the Blue Lagoon Resort were amazingly friendly and accommodating. We left feeling like part of the family. This was a trip of a lifetime for us. :-)

It has taken me a while to write this, as I don't like to write critical reviews, but I had the worst dive experience of my 200 dive history with this shop. From the outset, there was a great deal of confusion in the shop, as a boat load of guests had just arrived, and the path for arrivals goes through the dive shop area. I had decided to rent a wet suit heavier than my own that day, and had difficulty finding anyone who could help me discuss and locate the appropriate weights, or even tell me where I could stash my belongings, as we were staying at a nearby resort and were not Blue Lagoon guests. The woman who assisted me convinced me to add a 3 lb weight to one of the upper pockets of my BC, reassuring me that shouldn't "roll", so I had 3 lb.in each of my 2 integrated pockets, and 3 lb. at my shoulder.

Once on the boat, we were taken to a dive site fairly nearby, and told to drop down upon entering the water. The water was very murky, and visibility was the poorest we had encountered in our 3+ week stay in Fiji (Astrolabe Reef and Somosomo Strait were spectacular!). Throughout the dive I found myself rolling to the side due to the fact that my weights were not evenly distributed (6 lb on one side, 3 on the other).

Upon surfacing, I got onto the ladder but was unable to hoist myself up. The only staff on the boat, the driver, was busy talking with other divers already aboard, and did not even see me. I had to yell for help to get up the ladder and onto the boat. Once he helped me up, he immediately returned to chatting with the other divers, not walking me to the bench. I fell backwards with the tank on my back, but fortunately was not injured. We returned to the resort/shop for the surface interval.

Deciding that I had been over-weighted on the first dive, I decided that I wanted 1 lb. less weight for the second dive. I attempted to discuss this with the dive instructor who appeared to be the manager, and who had helped me earlier, leading to a discussion between her, the dive master from the boat, and me, regarding my weights. I understood that we decided to go with 4 lb in either pocket and remove the 3 lb. in the upper pocket. I made the big mistake of understanding that when they put the 4 lb weights in my integrated pockets that they had removed the one at my shoulder. Once back in the water I realized immediately that the 3 lb weight at my shoulder was still there and now I had 11 lbs. instead of the 8 that I intended! Additionally, again my mistake, I had difficulty understanding the accent of the dive leader, and first in the water, I assumed that the divers were descending at the back on the boat as we had done on the first dive. Over-weighted, I dropped quickly in the murky water, and no other divers followed. I waited, no one arrived, and I decided that I had to abort the dive and surface. The divers and dive leader went to the mooring line, until finally recognizing that a diver was missing! I have been diving for 25 years so was never afraid, but at best, with poor visibility and terrible service, this was an experience not to repeat. We cancelled the remainder of our planned dives with this group.

Lessons I learned: Take responsibility for all your own gear even when you believe the dive team is handling it. Make no assumptions about the dive briefing (which was in fact very vague) and ask for clarification if needed. Do not wait more than one minute before ascending if "lost".

If you're staying at blue lagoon diving with these guys is a must! We did our PADI open water cert (having very limited previous experience) and loved every second. Our instructor was Joe, who was a brilliant teacher and great fun!
The reef and sealife here is spectacular, the staff are all extremely helpful and nice and its simply a must do when here!

Made this year 4 dives with them, one shark dive plus 3 reef dives.

I will not comment the dives which were very good but rather the staff and team.

They have their own boat so can go far for best spots, and also pick you up (upon paying a fee of course) to your home resort.

We have dived two days in a row without too much notice and changed the plan of the dives to avoid we repeat the same, which was much appreciated.

Gear is in good condition aluminum tanks, and equipment appeared quite in good shape.

Unfortunately as in 95% of dive center they have to mix begginners or poor divers with more advanced, so during one dive we had to wait 5-10 minutes for one guy to be able to go down...

The guide was good, I felt the briefing too short, I like when it is very detailed notably for a shark dive (which can be exciting but scary at same time) but in the water he made good attention to the people as far ad what I saw.

Have not seen O2 tank on the boat nor a spare tank for the security stop (just in case) this is costless and should be done especially when dives could be far from dive shop (where I hope O2 was available).

Real issue is paying to Blue Lagoon and pls see my other post on this.

All in all I was very happy (and doubled the dives for this reason) with little adjustments that could increase security would be perfect.

Thank you very much for you lovely review and I am glad you enjoyed your diving experience with Vertical Blue Dive Shop. I apologize if you thought the briefing for the Shark Dive was a little brief (it may of been due to surface conditions being a little rough or another factor.) I have no doubt that the Divemaster would of still hit the main safety points in regards to Shark Diving but I have made him aware of your comments and he will certainly take your feedback into account and pop some more detail into his briefing. So thank you. Yes, we are very lucky to have a very attentive and experienced Divemaster and I am glad you enjoyed your experience with him! As for O2, you would be happy to know we DO have 100% Oxygen and a comprehensive First Aid Kit on board our dive boat at all times. Also a size E (4100 Litre) tank is kept back at the dive shop. I have reminded the dive crew to make sure before every dive trip all divers are made aware of our safety equipment, something they usually do but may of not been made as clear as it could of been on this certain occasion. Thank you again, we enjoyed hearing your feedback and are so happy you enjoyed your dives with us! Vinaka!

The boat crew and diving staff very very friendly and accommodating. Gear was well maintained and dive sites were varied and often very close to the accommodation which meant double dives were easy without much wasted time. The boat was easy to get in and out of and crew were always helpful.
