The Kaiser's place
mar 2020
Huis Doorn is most famous for the fact that after the first world war it became the refuge for the overthrown German Emperor. He spend his final days there choping wood. It really is nice to see..

Enchanting, Informative, Amazing & Historic
wrz 2019 • Pary
This beautiful and historic house / museum has been on my list for several years and I eventually traveled over to see it . I was definitely not disappointed. It was Kaiser William II home in The Netherlands when he abdicated after WW1. It’s not a palace but a home from home for him. It’s like he simply walked away and closed the door. Everything is in place , his clothes, furnishings and even his slippers. Great and historic art of the period and this was made electric by our superb guide Louise . A Dutch gracious lady with so many wonderful anecdotes to tell with a wicked sense of humour. Definitely for fans of European history and Royalty , Huis Doorn is simply a must see. Enjoy some nice food in the Orangerie near by . No 50 bus directly from Utrecht central station straight to Doorn Centrum. 5 minutes walk to the Huis , look out for road signs . Daily from 13.00 but not on Monday’s.

Over priced, small portions. Rip off!
kwi 2019
We visited the Orangerie restaurant before visiting the house.
We were extremely disappointed at the decieving menu. When the food arrived the porions were very small although the prices were higher than most restraunts. The food was very basic and actually all frozen of prepacked which only had to be put together in the kitchen. The place itself is very nice but very noisey as there are no soft furnishing and the service is inexperienced.
Do NOT reccommend. Left feeling ripped off.

Shame the tour is only in Dutch

This is an important house. It is hard to understamd why there isn't a recording of the tour talk available in English and German. Surely with information only in Dutch they are limiting their audience. Such a shame.

Great tour of Kaiser Wilhelm’s house
lip 2018 • Pary
Huis Doorn was bought by Kaiser Wilhelm 2 of Germany after he was forced to abdicate and sent in exile in 1920. It is chocful of luxury items which were brought from his palaces in Germany by 59 train cars. Especially also a large collection of gorgeous paintings. He liked the house dor its large grounds where he could chop wood.

There are guided tours on the top of the hour by very knowledgeable guides, cost 12 euros per persoon. There is also a museum shop on site and a restaurant in one of the side buildings.

A great place to visit
kwi 2018 • Pary
This is a real gem and not what I expected. You can go on an organised tour as well. This is the house that Kaiser Wilhelm 11 ended up at after WW11 and where he died. It is full of interesting furniture and personal items that came with him from 3 places in Germany after the war. The grounds are also nice to walk around.
